duck boat trailer bunk carpet for a wooden boat...

My experiences are similar. At one time my bunks were black polyethylene plastic. Besides the boat nearly sliding off the bunks and onto the ramp, several times because it is too damn slippery, I was getting bad paint wear and into the glass. How can something so slippery be so abrasive? I'll never know.

Actually, I have a theory. With carpeted bunks the dirt and sand fall into the fibers and away from the hull. With plastic bunks there is no place for dirt and sand, so it rides on the surface making sandpaper.

My theory :) :

(sand getting in there and the low friction coefficient of the plastic allows movement of the hull on the bunk when trailering).

This is a timely thread. I had to perform first aid to my bunk at the ramp in order to get home this last weekend. It has rotted out and bounced off the bracket at one of the fine boat ramps that Oregon has to offer. Time for new ones!

All I had was the ace bandage in the first aid kit in my truck. I usually have electrical tape in my blind bag because you can wrap it around anything and will stick to itself when its wet, but I must have used it and not replaced it. Thinking about it after the fact, I won't have to remove any left on adhesive when I get around to replacing the bunks. With one more weekend of the season I think I will be waiting for it warm up and not be raining when I replace them.
