Spanish mackerel were in fire on northern Tampa Bay this morning. On the water at 6am, done by 8:30. And some huge ones too. Heaviest limit of macs I’ve ever caught. Literally filled a 48 quart cooler.

Been hammering striped bass been a phenomenal spring run here on Long Island so far. Waiting for the fluke and weakfish bite to pick up, I’ve had a few but no banner days like the bass fishing yet

Just starting to pick away at the trout. Got in a north country trip to a remote lake last weekend. Literally spitting distance from the Quebec border, and hosting both brook trout and Arctic charr. We found the brook trout, but the charr escaped to swim another day. A perfect spot for the Grumman Sportboat, as the last 30 miles of logging road were in terrible shape and would have beat the snot out of a trailer. Sportboat on the canoe rack drew a few envious looks--especially from the guy who drug in an 18' Lund with a 40 hp motor! This weekend I put in two half days trolling a much larger lake closer to home. A couple of landlocked salmon and two brook trout on Saturday; 2 brook trout--one a solid 18"--today. Getting the new boat, a 16' Alumacraft V, dialed in. Need to play a bit with engine mounting, but pretty happy so far.

Small or Cut greenies or whitebait floated in the current under a cork! Sometimes a jig or bubble rig. Working a gotcha is too much work for my old shoulders!

You did good Carl. Yum Yum Eatem Up!

No fly fishing for me yet cuz of a foot injury, but hopefully soon. I'm well past the large fish stage in my life. In Geezerhood large fish especially if ya catch and release are a PITA. Not good for the fish or the human. Small to mid size fish are just fine, and usually very beautiful. A Long or Short Distance Release, is my favorite. Going everyday I can is what matters most, and June is a Everyday month here for me.

At a sprite young 58, I have no desire to catch monsters like amberjack or tarpon. I’d rather catch a pile of saltwater panfish or macs! Or a mess a bluegills.
