Duckboat pulls double-duty

For a while I have thought about using my boat to get into an area for deer hunting that would be a very long walk but only a short boat ride. After dealing with with yahoos the last few years, I guess I finally had enough motivation. I hunted a peninsula in a state park that I duck hunt. It would be about a two mile walk into the spot I hunted but was only a 300 yard boat ride and a couple hundred yard walk.
Needless to say, the effort payed off. I only saw 3 hunters and got an eight point. I saw several other boats on the peninsula so I wasn't the only one with that idea, but at least it wasn't a crowd.
Just wanted to share. Sorry about the cell phone pictures. Its all I had.

I have often considered doing something similar near me. Even though I live in a remote area I could access a nice peninsula between a stream and a swamp fairly easily and be several miles from the nearest road.

The only problem is when fall comes around I forget to go deer hunting it seems to be because I am chasing ducks all over.. I used to bow hunt all the time but have not picked it up in the last 5 years. I do plan to get out this late season for deer now that duck season is closed though.

you know that the duck boat to me is like a pickup truck. A real do all and should be enjoyed all year long.
Those back straps are going to be very rewarding.

Very nice Sam! I won't get out until this coming monday but I have all week off. I can only hope for a chance at one that nice. I've tried using the boat before but never with those results!

I do certainly have plenty of time for ducks now. Thats always the plan. It just doesn't always work out.

Hopefully this weather gets the birds moving.
 
I'd like to try the same thing here on the Columbia River, only one problem though. All lands north of the railroad tracks is no deer hunting, it's columbian subspecie whitetail, and they're listed here. It always sounds adventurous to do though.
