Fiberglass - Can I build with this type?

For the layout I used West Systems Boaters Resin - I have a Marine General 3 miles from my house and got the resin on sale for $30 a gallon. Lou - would I HAVE to add a layer of the biaxial cloth over the top of the CSM? Ideally I would be able to exclusively use CSM - then I wouldn't have...

Fiberglass - Can I build with this type?

Gents- Recently found a source for large pieces of scrap fiberglass cloth. As I have only built one boat (1-man layout) and used 10oz biaxial cloth for it, I'm not sure how this type of fiberglass would lay down. The glass that I'm used to using is the neatly woven type (apologies for the...

    My New (First) Pup

I realize I'm new here and haven't had the opportunity to meet any of you, but felt I have to share a great time in my life - my first dog! I've been waiting to do it for many years. Many of my friends got dogs in college and didn't have the time or facilities to properly care for a dog. Now...

Another 1 man, or a 2 man layout?

Gentlemen, looking for advice on what to build next to best fit the fleet. I finished building my first duckboat this spring - it's a marsh-monster layout boat. Tested it this weekend for the first time and it performed wonderfully (I'll get pictures up soon). Our Tender boat is an 18'...

    High Capacity Bilge Pumps (4000+gph)

I have decided on two 1100gph Rules on seperate batteries. This seems to be a suitable compromise between overkill and average based on the feedback you all have provided. I appreciate your insight. I also read through a couple old posts on VHF radios and will order an Icom M72 in the...

    High Capacity Bilge Pumps (4000+gph)

Looking for advice regarding high capacity bilge pumps. I searched old posts but didn't find anything relevant to high capacity bilges. I've spent my share on the fun stuff (decoys, guns, etc), now I figure it's time to put my money where it counts - safety. Nearly lost my 16' last year...

What's the scoop on Briggs & Stratton air cooled boat motors ?

That's what I will be running this year for backwater situations - 5hp Briggs on an MLB Wigeon. For broadwater I'll likely be running a 9.8hp to get up on plane. I saw earlier posts of a gentlemen running a grayed out briggs on a wigeon - looked like a nice rig - search the posts for Wigeon...

    Mudhen Recipe

I had the opportunity to have a long sitdown with an oldtime duckhunter here in Milwaukee (Grandpa Zaidel). He dug through his files and found a recipe that he swore by. Told me I'd be sucking the bones. I haven't tried it yet, but I thought I'd share. I've never eaten a coot - but I'm sure...

MLB ZT Wigeon - just got one

Jim - I saw on an old post that they used your dad's boat to make the mold - what an honor! I can't wait to get mine out on the water. Looking forward to the pics of your decoy racks! Thanks-

MLB ZT Wigeon - just got one

Picked up a new boat this morning - I couldn't pass up a good deal on an MLB Wigeon. It's my 7th boat, and tomorrow I pick up an 18' center console to be my 8th boat.....i've caught the bug- The Wigeon is in good shape, but the prior owner had painted it duckboat brown/green. Factory it...

    Tri-Hull vs. V-hull - Should I buy?

Gentlemen- Looking for experience using a tri-hull vs. a v-hull for big water hunting. I currently have a 16' deep V that I use for hunting the great lakes - it handles waves extremely well for it's size. Better than the crew in fact. I am contemplating purchase of the boat pictured...

Anybody building a boat this year???

I've been working on my first boat. A Lake Erie Style Layout. I'm about 2/3 done. Just have to install the decking and fiberglass the whole thing. Some pics of the build follow:

    One of my rigs

I use this boat mainly for divers on the great lakes. It handles the seas pretty well for it's size - better than my hunting partner both times we were in 4+ footers this year. Don't have any pictures (thankfully), but he covered my decoys in a nice coating of breakfast on more than one occasion...

IN-VADM Decoys - ever hear of them?

Did you buy them new 7 years ago? I'm just wondering if they should be a working decoy for me, or whether they go in the attic for 30 years to appreciate a little..... Any idea on ballpark manufacturing dates? Were these made in the 50's, or 90's?

IN-VADM Decoys - ever hear of them?

I wonder why their website wouldn't be around anymore - or at least someone a google return for a reference to their website, even if they're closed.

IN-VADM Decoys - ever hear of them?

Last year I bought some herters from a guy who also sold me 2 dozen old-time bluebills. I tried to look them up but can't find them anywhere, and google doesn't return anything on them either. They are all drake bluebills. They have a very flat body - top of the back is probably 1.5" off the...
