    Dead Creek Day this Saturday

If you live in Vermont or northeast New York, here's a fun day for you at the Dead Creek Goose refuge in Addison. State biologist Dave Sausville (I don't know his official title) is the host. There will be tons of exhibits and activities for people of all ages: retriever demos, wood duck house...

    Barrel Cam questions

Thanks Rex, Looks like they retail for $120 +/-. I just picked a new one up on e-bay for $41 +$8 shipping. Assuming, of course I don't get ripped off, I'll give you some feedback in a couple weeks.

    Barrel Cam questions

I've watched some duck & goose hunting YouTube videos taken with barrel cameras. Looks really cool and I'm thinking of buying one. Does anybody use one of these toys? If you do, what brand and what are the pro's and con's? From the little research I've done, they seem to be in the $100 -...

    Duck Banding

Eric, the rockets were made by the biologist. I didn't take any measurements but the look to be about 12" sections of 2" black steel pipe. They're threaded on each end and caps have been screwed on. The back cap has about six 3/8" or 1/2" holes drilled in it for the propellant thrust. The...

    mudders?

No experience but I've been concerned that if the mud is too soft, I'd sink in and be REALLY stuck!

    Duck Banding

Hi Mike, Yes, all the birds get banded. Smaller birds like woodies and teal get smaller bands, larger birds (mallards, blacks and pintails) get larger bands. The banding 'season' is about over, as all bait has to be removed 10 days before youth waterfowl weekend which is the 26th and 27th...

    Duck Banding

Just finishing up helping the State biologists with some bird banding. Capture method is a three pronged rocket shot. The base side of the net is weighted and the rockets throw the other end of the net out about 30-35 feet. On the first shot I was involved in, one rocket came loose and who...

    What would you do here?

Trailer wires may be bad, but wire to wire connections are the worst! I just try to make it through late season hunting without getting a ticket and then it seems like every spring I have to repair my trailer lights, connections, and wires.

    The Mallard Boat

Great pics and documentation of your boat build. I'm enjoying it! From my experience, make sure the air temp is warm (the warmer the better) when you mix the foam or it won't expand properly. Doug

    Success! Elect. Motor Start Capacitor

Scott, I have to start my bench grinder by spinning the wheel and then turning it on. I think you've shamed me into installing a new capacitor! Doug

Not a great way to start the season

Back in 1989, but buddy Mike and I decided to build a duck boat. After looking at a number of different designs, we decided a Black Brant was the best for us. I think our construction pictures are still posted here somwhere. This is the 20th year for the ol' craft - and it's served us well...

    What's your 'Bucket List'?

Hi Ed, Yes, I usually go to the ACDU banquet. I've been on the committee for years and have been the emcee a number of times. Didn't make it to the banquet last fall, as it was the night before leaving for our Saskatchewan goose hunt. (What a time!) If you'd like to donate a decoy to our...

    What's your 'Bucket List'?

Wow! Neat stuff! Thanks guys. Makes me think how lucky I've been already. Here are some significant events already accomplished. - Made our own boat (Black Brant) - Carved our own mallard and GE decoys. - Hunt with my son and grandsons. - See my grandsons actually shoot flying birds (what a...

    What's your 'Bucket List'?

Hi Folks. Haven't been around this ol' site in months. Nice to see things are still going well. With the movie 'The Bucket List' coming out soon and, as I understand, the premise about a couple guys making of list of things to do before they kick the bucket, I was thinking... What three duck...

    Shotgun help needed!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Sounds like a real good cleaning is at the top of the list. I just talked with my friend, and he's been using WD-40 to clean his gun. I don't want to bad-mouth any product, but I don't think that's the best choice for cleaning a gun! I've used Breakfree for...

    Shotgun help needed!

Thanks Robert. Are you talking about the spring that goes down the stock? I had an 11-87 with a rusted spring one time and the gun wouldn't eject well. Does the Beretta have a similar mechanism? As for the gas seal, I'm not sure what / where that is. I thought the Beretta had a 'collar'...

    Shotgun help needed!

Thanks Kino. Sorry - I forgot to mention I'm hunting in Vermont on Lake Champlain. No snow yet, but the mornings have been in the 20's. I'll pass on the suggestion about cleaning well and then using just a 'touch' of Breakfree.

    Shotgun help needed!

My buddy hunts with a Beretta 391 Urika and has run into a couple problems. Hoping there's an 'expert' out there that might have a suggestion or two... There are two problems with the gun - don't know if they're related - that are driving him crazy. The first is once in a while the gun...
