What's your 'Bucket List'?

Great question. I love thinking about stuff like this.

I want to hunt king eiders on the north slope here someday. I was this close to going last year but it fell through at the last minute. Finding a dependable boatman was iffy.

If Mac can get his Hunter's Ed this winter we might be able to go down to the coast in Alaska and try for Harlies this Sept. That would be a hoot.

I'd also like to see the Yukon River delta someday where Matt D used to live.

1 good flooded timber hunt somthing out of a cool permanent blind like in the duck commanders traditions video
2 hunting out of one of those concrete bunker curtain blinds
3 is a two way tie and not ducks 1 caribou during the migration with a bow 2 red stag in new zealand couldnt decide

Makes me think how lucky I've been already.
Here are some significant events already accomplished.

- Made our own boat (Black Brant)
- Carved our own mallard and GE decoys.
- Hunt with my son and grandsons.
- See my grandsons actually shoot flying birds (what a thrill!)
- Hunt the Eastern Shore of Maryland
- Own and Hunt over two really good Labs
plus already mentioned
- Diver hunt on Cape Cod
- Goose and duck hunt in Saskatchewan.

Of course, when you're as old as I am, there's been a lot of time to get these things done :)
 
hey doug you ever go to the addison co. du banquets. im looking to head down there to donate a decoy to that dinner. its usually in sept right?

you know jim ross by any chance?

Well i got a bucket but nuthin im dreamin about will fit into it!!

1- Buy me a Duckwaters boat 20 feet long if possible with the works on it
my retirement present to me ,to pass along to Makayla...
2- live long enough to see my Makayla take her first duck using her own Dave Shady Larsen calls,maybe long enough to see her behind the helm of our duckwaters boat coming intot he launch to pick dear ol`dad up for a day on the bay...ah!!
3- live long enough to enjoy retirement watching her grow up and going duckin with her as much as possible...maybe even long enough for grand kids ,my wouldnt that be sumthing...

dear lord i know its a long list for me but if your willin so am i.......

Hi Ed,

Yes, I usually go to the ACDU banquet. I've been on the committee for years and have been the emcee a number of times. Didn't make it to the banquet last fall, as it was the night before leaving for our Saskatchewan goose hunt. (What a time!) If you'd like to donate a decoy to our banquet, we'd really appreciate it. The 'local' items such as decoys and prints are always the best part of the auction.

Do I know Jim Ross? Yes, we've both been on the DU committee plus we've hunted together a number of times. Also, he was one of my kids' high school teachers.
 
haha he owns some of my whistler deks. every time i ask someone from your way if they know mr ross the answer so far has been "oh yea he was my kids teacher" or "oh yea he was my teacher"

if you have the contacts for whomever might be running it this year, id greatly appreciate it.

i have to contact rick irick to see about doing a decoy for all 14 banquets this year. i'll be at the sportsmens classic saturday, hopefully hes there.

do you know much about that dead creek days event in oct? i wanted to go this year but i had a wedding to go to.

I have thought about that list for a few days.

1. To be able to carve a broadie just like I did in 1980
2. To be able to hunt divers like did for so many years before I moved to Va.
3. To turn one of my deer hunting buddies here into a duck hunter.
4. To help a young hunter see that sunrise that I saw as a young man on Raritan Bay that made me love duck hunting so much no matter where I lived.
5. To ?
 
  1. Grow in faith
  2. Have continued love and respect from my wife
  3. Raise children who can support themselves and instill mine and my wife's values with them
  4. Be surrounded with friends to the end
Sorry if my list isn't quite what you were after but the other stuff, although all cool things to see and do, isn't what would make me feel content.
 
Amen! The things of this world are fleeting. Family, faith, and good friends. Those are the things that truly matter.
