Cool IL duck hunting video from 1919

Pat and Bob: Thanks for the info. And Ed for the video. I find duck boats of all kinds just fascinating. Really enjoyed the skiffs in the video. Without you guys, this stuff will get lost. Thanks for your efforts and knowledge. As in all duck boats years ago--and today--there is a grace...

Cool IL duck hunting video from 1919

Pat: Thanks so much. As SJS will note, on the South Shore of LI, the boats seem to be classified: Seaford Skiff, South Bay Scooter, Whaleback Scooter and of course the punt. They varied enormously, I think as Steve will agree. And actually the variation is interesting. Creative thinking by...

Cool IL duck hunting video from 1919

Really terrific video. The skiffs were so interesting. Does that style of skiff have a name? I assume the hunters typically gunned out of them? Or did they primarily use them for transportation to blinds and points? Or both?

APRIL - What's on your work bench?

Dave: What a great piece. Brings back so many memories, and you are so correct in that the fishery biologists seem to forget about the importance of the menhaden. Bunker were a part of my life like snapper blues, eeIs on summer nights and black ducks in the salt marsh. As I mentioned in...
