    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Just looked it up, I can make one pretty easy. I have access to a lathe at work. Is the only problem with the pipes them clogging up and/or freezing? I'm still thinking it would be better to have the water go straight through the tubes than to be all around under the floor. What am I missing?

Tony I appreciate the offer on borrowing the tube setter. Could you post a picture of the tool? I might be able to make something myself.

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

I was planning on using them for drainage. I didn't know if it would be okay for water to run free under the floor. I figured I wouldn't want to plug the front while we hunt because the water would build up and I didn't want my dog to sit in water. I am completely open to suggestions at this...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Sorry Tony, the pvc is long in the front because I havent cut it yet. I was planning on cutting it flush with the bulkhead. Also I plan on glassing both sides of the 3/8" ply so I thought it would be plenty stiff, especially considering it will only span 12". John, thats one thing I have been...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Hey guys sorry it's been so long since an update! I've been so busy with work I have had no time to work on the boat. I got a little done this weekend, but am unsure if it is what I really want to do. I cut a bulkhead for the front and a small on for the rear. I made a short stringer and cut out...

Thanks for your information Cody! This is really helpful. If you don't mind sharing, what kind of speeds with what kind of loads are you seeing on your sneak boat? Also, what size prop are you running?

I planned on doing some reinforcement. Do I need a motor that big or should I stick with one of the smaller Predator engines? Do you know what kind of power I could expect from each one?

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Thanks Cody. Yeah I plan on building my own using the 420cc Harbor Freight Predator engine. Last night I got the transom put in. Got some small fillets but will go back over the edges and tab it all in nicely. I'm not sure if I will work on it tonight, may have to go chase the crappie again!

Gene, my foam lookes to be molded as well, but glassed over. Could have been glassed at a later date though. The front "dog box" was not factory, someone cut it out and added a combing around it. The combing is now rotted out and will need repaired. I'm not sure if I am going to leave it open...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Didn't get a whole lot done last night. Got the fillets ground down smooth and glassed one side of the transom.

I realized I had forgotten to post pictures of the underside of the cap for you to see the flotation foam. Took a couple pictures this morning, may be a little hard to see because I had to hold the cap up with one hand and take the pictures with the others.

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

I got a little done tonight. I took my belt sander and my air grinder to all the edges of the transom and smoothed them over. Then I made fillets on the edges of the motor board. Will get the rest of the transom wrapped tomorrow. You can see in the following pictures that I should hopefully be...

I really appreciate all the insite guys. Unfortunately I only have poly resin on hand. I've read of several rebuilds of larger boats using only poly and glass to seal the wood with no problems, but I'm sure the problems won't become apparent until several seasons down the road. If it does become...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Thanks Steve. I could have just used screws to clamp it, but had the all-thread and nuts plus some 2x4 scraps so it was a simple and effective solution. Beveling the motorboard would have been smart, but I do not have a table saw and the last time I borrowed my buddy's I lost the end of my right...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Got a little more done last night. I got the transom cut and glued together. After seeing how stout just one piece of the 3/4" plywood was I decide to just do it like the factory. I cut out one piece the full size of the transom and just a motor board for the center. I used Titebond 2 to glue it...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Made a little progress this weekend, but didn't work on it as much as I should have because the darn crappie wouldn't stay off my hook! You can see where I hit the transom with a thin coat of resin and some thin CSM just to stiffen it up a tad because it was real floppy. I also repaired the...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

I plan on completely glassing the wood before ever installing it. I plan on using some 2x4s to clamp the wood together while gluing and to clamp the transom in the boat while tabbing in. My boat has quite a bit of foam under the cap, not sure how much but I'm sure it's several cubic feet because...

    Arthur Armstrong Broadbill Rebuild

Well I had planned on using what I had on hand. Nice 3/4 exterior plywood glued together with titebond then wrapped with CSM. Will glass it to the boat with more CSM and thickened resin.

Actually the full transom is the same type of plywood as the motor board. And all was covered with fiberglass I plan on putting back two full pieces of plywood across the transom and maybe add in a couple of braces because I plan on running a small mud motor. The boat actually does have...
