    October Workbench

Very nice work. I started wood carving while living in Fairbanks 44 years ago. Not a lot to do in the winter, carving was good therapy. I was carving in a corner of a one room apartment that my wife and I found on Chena pump road. All hand tools back then, no noise since the landlord lived...

    Oh mother nature....

sounds exciting. Nothing like hunting over decoys you made yourself. I really like that cross, you are going to be into all kinds of stuff with decoys in the future. Lots and lots of options with foam decoys.

    Let's Hear Your Worst Job

I've been self employed for the past 40 years, so can't complain much about the boss. My wife and I have been married for 44 years now and the first few years were tough. I did get fired from my first job after we got married, I was a minister in a Christian Church in Fairbanks, AK. I lasted...

    October Workbench

nice work Jeremy, I really like those bufflehead hens, the best decoy for buffleheads is the hens and are often left out. I used to give buffleheads a regular workout with my 9 hen 2 drake spread.

That's a fine looking urn, a great tribute to a retriever. I like the work you did with the paint, especially the head.

Towards the end of July a friend let me know that her black lab had died. I've been working on this wigeon urn ever since and finally finished it yesterday.

Huge goose decoys. What am I looking at?

I flocked a single canada that was made by newman and Bennetts (plastiduck). It was 5 or 6 feet long or so, just huge and a huge job to flock and paint. As far as shipping, save your self some money with pirateship.com They have much better rates.

The last piece of tupelo I bought a couple of years ago to make some quail out of was as hard as a rock and I'm carving with a Foredom. The basswood I bought at the same time was wonderful. I've had some pretty good tupelo in the past, I was kind of shocked, it wasn't noticeably heavy, but it...

    Live Decoys Making A Comeback?

When I saw the first spinner I didn't like the way it seemed to level the playing field for novice hunters. I introduced two families to duck hunting on opening day over 20 years ago. Neither had ever duck hunted before and had no idea what they were doing other than what I had told them...

    eiders and scoters

Thanks guys. Just makes me wonder what all this black and white might do on the river around here. Brad, I have mallards decoy to my goldeneye frequently over mallard and wigeon decoys just 75 yards away. We have lots of common and hooded mergansers too and thought about making a few of...

    Collections

My brother and I both missed the collector gene. Both of my parents however were loaded with it. My mom collected anything native american, her side of the family was Cherokee. She had a room dedicated in their house to native american art. Somehow most of it disappeared shortly after her...
