Dani, You need one of those doggie backpacks. Let them carry their own water. [smile]

Ever have one of those days?

HeHeHe, it would have been nice if it was warm enough for skeeters. Odd as it sounds though, the smell of the marsh at low tide is somehow comforting. A salt marsh at night is a cool place, all the little critters come out. I didn't see any muskrats that trip, but watching them paddle around in...

Ever have one of those days?

Jeff, Playing the tides is something us coastal guys take for granted. A couple of times over the years, friends who haven't spent much time in tidal areas have come to hunt or fish and are amazed and/or horrified by the effort required to avoid stranding. But for all the aggravation, it...

Ever have one of those days?

A different version of "one of those days". It's sunset, time to pick up. Gunner wants his dinner, but it's going to be a while before the tide comes in. For the record, I have now demonstrated to my own satisfaction that surface drive mud motors will not push a boat through this kind of mess.

    High Plains Adventure

Great story telling, and photos as always. You put on some miles in the bush, by the looks of Belles booties from the first photo of her to the last. Destroyed. That a bird or two got away is understandable, you must have ten pounds of whistles, collar controls and cameras around your neck...

ID Help. Double ender sneak boat.

That was my first thought. Of course, rail skiffs look very similar to many of the midwest skiffs. Both types designed and built for one purpose, skinny water.

    Aeromarine sneakboat restoration

As always, you give great guidance. I have limited experience wrapping handles compared to you, but I'd offer an alternative to melting the line to a point. I've had good luck inserting an escutcheon pin, sized appropriately for the line being worked, directly into the end of the line. Only the...

    Need rain!!

Didn't I just see weather forecasts for torrential rain for the gulf coast states? Like 6-8" this week? Be careful what you wish for. Hope nobody gets flooding in their house.

    Season report

It sucks when you get a down year. Makes you remember the good ones. Maybe your old spot will be this year honey hole. You still have two weeks, give 'em hell.

They certainly can be difficult to persuade. When the season opens, I'll make 'em an offer they can't refuse. Best I got. [cool]

We can trade you about 500 butterballs for a couple dozen scaup. And throw in a big flock of boobies (ruddies) for free.

I can think of one way to fix that problem. [wink]

Tampa Bay Migration Report November 7, 2023

There's a few puddlers showing up along the CT coast this week. No broadbill yet that I can see, they typically show around Thanksgiving. I'm curious Carl, are the scaup you see greater or lessers? Most all that we see in salt water are greaters, aka "broadbill".

Is it worth having a dog?

Dani, Your new lab looks like a fine boy. Keep on spoiling him and Belle, one of the great joys in having dogs.

    What's on your Workbench - November 2023

Love to see how it comes out. What sucks is the color, I only see bright, non duck hunting approved shades advertised. I wonder if you could mix a touch of paint with it to get a dark green?

    What's on your Workbench - November 2023

Nice decoy hook Eric. The cord wrapping is a quality touch. Just a thought, have you considered "plasti dipping" the metal hook? It cuts down on dings to the decoys and boat.

On my Android pad and one computer I need to disable Google Privacy and Security in order to post. One of the Google updates makes it otherwise impossible to post on this site, probably because the site needs modernization. I think this is one of the problems Eric is hoping to rectify by...

    pointing dog

I second what Dani suggested about pointing labs. Our 5 y.o. lab Gunner came from an Iowa kennel. We got him specifically because he came from pointing stock, and he is a manageable 70 lbs, a lightweight compared to the previous three 90+ pounders. He hunts grouse and pheasants with my buddies...
