Duck Band Recovery Models and Data Analysis

Eric, I believe all are government employees either in USFWS or USGS. Most write in code in R while 30 years ago we used SAS.

Duck Band Recovery Models and Data Analysis

Lmao. A "D" for skipping the final, hmmm. Why attend at all? Eric, you are probably the only one here who would read this for fun. AHM uses bayesian hierarchal models to predict population size but survival rate and recovery rates from banding data is used in the integrated population...

    Brain Trust question....tankless water heaters

I put in a propane Rinnai 3 years ago. I descale it annually. It is great but you do have to wait for the water to get heated and to your faucet. I like it but I might have installed a loop system in a new build. I have a well so not too concerned with wasting water but you do have to wait...

    What's on your work bench?-April

Nice job folks. Patrick those are some expressive blocks. They already have a nice patina to them. Nothing duck related on the work bench. A jewelry box for my soon to be daughter-in-law and the ring box for the wedding.

Change To Federal Mallard Pop Goal and Impact on Seasons

Jeff, yes, the Y axis is total harvest or yield. So a is cumulative harvest or yield and b is effort or catch per unit of effort. It's a simplistic model of yield vs. effort in an exploited population. But I think it is helpful for demonstrating the concept that if we manage for maximum...

Change To Federal Mallard Pop Goal and Impact on Seasons

There is a lot going on in this thread, but I'll try to comment some of the topics. A caveat first, I've been outta the game for the most part for 6 years but I'll try to answer questions when I know the answer. I hope I can answer some of the questions and comments without sounding too preachy...

I've been tied up for the last couple of weeks. I'll try to find time to read this thread and see if I can explain Eric's original questions. But it'll be a few days til I can get to back to respond.

    June in Alaska

I have taken the train from Anchorage to Denali and on to Fairbanks, the ferry from Ketchikan to Skagway, done fly-in float trips in the Bristol Bay area and Gates of the Arctic and ocean fished out of Seward and Homer. It's a huge state with many opportunities. How much time do you have and...

    Very lucky day for me

It's hormones. I don't mean to start the debate over but it is part of their annual cycle like getting all dressed up in breeding plumage.
