Trip To Pencil Brook Farm - AKA Sanford Museum, NY

Anthony, looking forward to seeing more in the future. My visits to Pencil Brook have all been in December, so my perspective is quite different to the landscape! Steve, I have the gunnel edge for the Blackjack. It has seen better days and is not complete. I was debating replacing it or...

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

Stev, yes, that does help. I will make sure I am above and not even. Just a thought, the mahogany was a full 2" thick. On the spacers, I just planed them to make a finished surface, so they are 1/2" thicker than a 2by is. Does that mean I should cheat up a little more? I did plane the...

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

Steve, do you have a picture installed from the transom? To Eric's question, does the stand-off install flush with the lower edge of the hull, or does it sit up a little? I made mine today, have painted on straight epoxy, then added Cab-o-Sil and glued the stand-offs to the motorboard. I have...

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

When I restored the Sam Hunt BBSB back in 2009, I bartered with a co-worker for a big slab of mahogany. I very carefully used that board and saved and used every piece I could. I still have some cut-offs worth saving, but nothing too large. I reached out to him again, as he is a wood hoarder...

Trying to save my back! MAXXHaul Hoist a Winner!!!

My MAXXHaul Hoist arrived. I was impressed with the quality. The box is re-enforced with plywood, and there was only a minor tweak to one of the tabs that an adjustable wrench took care off. I set it up as designed in the garage. And then started purusing the internet to find an...

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

Well, with a little research (should have done before I asked) I find.... White ash is not known for being very pest or moisture-resistant at all and is not ideal for outdoor use.

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

Steve, just for clarification, I have the ash, rather than hunt for a PT lumber can I use what I have?

    Motorboard installed on SBDB

I need to replace the motorboard on my SBDB. I have a piece of Ash that is 2x12x36 that was part of a stash of materials and tools I bought years ago from a guy giving up on his strip canoe project. Would ash be an acceptable wood for the motorboard, supporting my 15hp?

Trying to save my back! MAXXHaul Hoist a Winner!!!

You guys are not much help, helping me spend my money! While I certainly appreciate all the work arounds, having a lift that can go with me is desirable. In any case, both the harness and the lift are on order and should be here later in the week. I know my 25hp, and 40hp both have rings, but...

Dodge and Krowl suffered some damage

I finally got a little caught up on my outdoor chores this weekend. I got the new carb installed on the leaf vacuum, and managed to get up all the leaves on the areas of the lawn I am allowed to cut right now, as there are flowers in some areas that the bees need right now. One of the projects...

Trying to save my back! MAXXHaul Hoist a Winner!!!

Thank you all for your input. Steve, I had not seen that outboard harness, and will add one to my order! All, my tents are the Costco/Tractor supply tents. I made floors in the 2 shop tents (4 others are storage only). I obviously don't live in a HOA community, and I suspect I have 2...

Trying to save my back! MAXXHaul Hoist a Winner!!!

I tried to set the 15hp Yamaha on the South Bay by myself. The sponsons/hull prevented me from getting close. When I reached out with the outboard about 18 inches from my body, I could not control the weight and it got twisted on the motorboard. It took Brian and I some effort to get it back...

    WAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOO

Dani, will the breeder temperament test? When I was running and doing some breeding, I would always have the litter tested (can't do your own, stranger must do it), and I would test others litters. I would determine the best pup for each owner. They could accept or not. Some folks were not...

Lake eerie style boats down south

I would agree with Carl, there are many low profile boats that would be much more verstile than a Erie Layout for open and tucked hunting. Might not hunt as big water as a layout, but without the tender you can't deploy the layout in big water either. Look at 4Rivers, MoMarsh, Wigeon, etc...

Lake eerie style boats down south

I think Gadwall in a layout will be a challenge. They tend to fly high and circle. You will need to cover up and be motionless in a layout to fool them.

    ISO Gray's Sporting Journal - Fall 1980

Thank you all. If I happen upon a copy to add to my SBDB notebook that would be great, but getting the whole article to read was the most important. Bob if you have a copy and are done with it, I would certainly like to have it.

Saved ..... back on the tidal waters

Steve, perusing the archives I found a post from 2021 with oarlocks on a SB! Duckboats.net: Main Forums: Duck Boat/Hunting Forum: Southbay duckboat who owns them ? 3rd post on the thread.
