    Lumber yard etiquette

All we have here is big box stores. No cherry picking allowed for the most part. Homebuilders here have gotten to the point they order 20% over bill or material requirements and return what they don't use. One of the reasons I don't shop at Menards. I don't like paying before picking.

    Duck season opens Saturday!

But the Mississippi River is so low the back waters where I was hoping to find an open blind are not to be. I can't get my big ole V bottom back in these skinny waters. Soooo, I improvising. After getting a new outboard this year I know better than to ask for more. The Fed regulates blind...

    Vintage duck boat

Yes, I got off topic a bit. Christopher Columbus Smith, got started as the owner of Chris Craft in the late 1800s with duck boats but they were strip built double enders. The 40s and 50s were the highlight of plywood built hulls. I inherited my grandfather's 1954 Neptune Mahogany runabout. It...

    Figures

Pretty cool. In the stand 16 hours so far and I've seen 6 deer. None near my stand though! I've seen more ducks in the river lately than I've seen in a while. A lot of backwaters and ponds dry.

    Vintage duck boat

May I ask what I'm looking at here in this picture? Is there a tunnel to the hull? What does the inside at the transom look like? When I look at you boat this one comes to mind from Glen L boat plans although there are differences.

    Morning walk about.

That's a neat looking spot Steve. I hope you get some water. There's a duck blind about 100yards and to the right of my deer stand. It's always been a good woodie hole. This year the summer flood took out the blind and today there was a out 2" of water but there is no bottom in the mud. I had to...

    Morning walk about.

Things certainly do change. It was Mallards here when I was young. Then Widgeon seem to take over in the 80s. Once I returned home in the 90s the Gadwall became the table fair. Through the 2000s puddle ducks moved west and East and divers took over. The season opens October 26th and I'll be...

    Morning walk about.

I imagine you talking about Guntersville Lake? It can happen so easy and so fast. We are still relegated to these same blind locations since the 50"s. I wish they would just open it up to boat blinds but then that opens a whole other can of worms.

    Morning walk about.

I went deer hunting this morning and decided to take a walk around and check out a couple of duck blinds. The water is so low many of the interior island blinds aren't accessible. This is why we don't use wooden boats on the Mississippi River in my area. Prior to the DNR putting a stop to using...
