    Fiberglass STINKS!!!

What he said! I use epoxy in the shop year 'round - polyester inside NEVER. re the ozone generator. No experience - but there are firms that clean buildings after fires etc. - another source of tech help, perhaps. All the best, SJS

    Fiberglass STINKS!!!

William~ Sorry you had to learn this the hard way. Working with polyester resin (what we all think of as the fibreglass odor) has long been an outside-only job for me. The "aroma" lingers for a long, long time. I can only suggest you consult some of the tech people at fiberglass suppliers...

A couple of old waterfowl books

Vince~ I do not own that fine book - but have enjoyed it cover-to-cover! Speaking of which...I have always loved the cover art: For me it evokes the wonderful work - sometimes truly arduous and even dangerous - that we all accept and value as part of our Grand Passion. I get the same...

    January Workbench

Tim~ Gorgeous work! I've never painted a canine head - but once thought I'd paint human portraits. I did break out the watercolors - for this Wildfowler Model Superior Mallard. Balsa-bodied bird from the Old Saybrook factory. All the best! SJS

"We're gonna need a bigger boat"

Good morning, Nick~ I have hunted from Craig Kessler's TDB 17 for many years (decades) - almost always with 4 gunners. Ample room. Craig is meticulous about covering everything - mostly with Salt Hay down low and Cordgrass higher up. One thing that Craig did was to almost always have...

    Real Name Headaches

Eric~ I have followed this thread - and your travails - with despair. Decided not to recommend capitulating to the times - going with the flow and just accepting any old AI-generated moniker - with symbols, emojis et cetera. Instead - upon receiving a helpful note from Breakingbad this...

    New - Boat build advice

Good morning, Henry~ Two thoughts re flipping your Snow Goose during the build: 1. I have a pair of chain hoists in my shop. IF YOUR CEILING JOISTS ARE STRONG ENOUGH: Is bought my chain hoists from Harbor Freight for ~ $40 each, as I recall. I did not spend 10X as much because my use if...

ISO - Herter's Model Canada Bluebill (or Redhead) - in-use paint would be fine

Thanks, Bob~ We (LIDCA) have a member with a "complete" collection of Herters anchor. So, I will pass on your thoughtful answer. Thanks, Eric~ Site is a bit counter-intuitive to this Old School brain - but I have already found a couple of other decoys I might bid on. All the best, SJS

ISO - Herter's Model Canada Bluebill (or Redhead) - in-use paint would be fine

All~ My Dad bought 7 Model Canada Bluebill decoys from Herter's right after WW II. These were Herter's oversize decoys with balsa bodies. After he replaced them with (dozens of) the foam-bodied Model 72s - for gunning Broadbill on Great South Bay - he asked me to convert them to Whistlers -...

“Doc & The Rube-Perfect Together” by Bob Keeney Jr

Good morning, Bob~ What a fine tale - well told! In addition to the amazing history, I especially liked 2 things: the beam and bottom paint. The JAMES CAIRD (an "almost" Barnegat Bay Sneakbox) is about 12' LOA and about 5' beam. For several years now I have been putting a "bottom paint...

TAIGA BEAN GOOSE - Who knew there were two?

Greg~ I think A Book on Duck Shooting was my first introduction to the species (just one species back then) as well. Since then - especially when I was a waterfowl biologist by profession - I have tried to learn about all the world's ducks and geese. I did know about Barnacle Geese since...
