    Another Thank-you to Steve Sanford

Guess it's wise to try a few experiments. Got a busted aluminum snow shovel that might be just right for this project. Glad I was too lazy to throw it away, er, I mean had the foresight to put it aside.

    Another Thank-you to Steve Sanford

Maybe about a year ago I noticed some Steve Sanford posts concerning bank spikes, and made a mental note to try making one. Well I still haven't gotten one done, but on the final waterfowling trip of this season I got an idea for improvising one. I usually take about a 3-foot piece of re-bar...

Hybrid NL...Good Boat for a first timer?

Joe, I built a super-sized hybrid shown in this link: http://www.duckboats.net/...do=post_view#p301984 Like Paul, I used marine plywood, epoxy, and stitch and glue construction. This boat weighed about 215 pounds when i initially constructed it, though it may be a bit heavier now since...

    Duck season summary

Same held true here in Rhode Island. I think this is my 18th season hunting ducks, and it clearly has been my best so far. The conditions seem like they have been the same as you describe them in New Jersey (which really isn't all that far away).

Here's an image you dont see every winter:

    Looks like a glacier

    Safety on the water.

Steve, This afternoon on the way back to the boat ramp I spotted something odd. 3 folks were clamming on shore, but at first all I saw was 2 sets of gloves and a hat. I don't recall what color, but I think is was either blaze orange or a very vibrant red. The rest of their clothing was...

    A first for me

Mark, I'm 59 and got my first pintail earlier this season. I spooked one this morning when I arrived at my spot, but it didn't return during the hunt. Way to go Benp. Have you noticed the pintail population being increased in your area this season?

    What's in the Gene Pool?

Yesterday I looked at one of my mallard drake decoys (which I've had for many years) and noticed that it has green painted on the rump, exactly where it shows on this hybrid. This whole thing has been eye-opening.

    Chincoteague

Thanks, Steve. I too apolgize to Jon. I certainly contributed to the hijack with my questions.

    Chincoteague

Thanks, Steve. What a great concept. Really hope to construct a set of those rollers. They look real useful.

    Chincoteague

Great idea as usual, Steve. Would you be so kind as to describe a "beach roller". I'm guessing it is a cylindrical length of something that is at least as wide as the boat, but I'd really love to learn more details since there are a few ramps hereabouts that the extra rope and the beach...

    What's in the Gene Pool?

Amazing how something can be right in front of your face for years without your noticing it. In my defense, however, it is a rare season when I am able to harvest a drake mallard. There just aren't usually a lot of them in the salt marshes where I hunt Right now, however, there are a fair...

    What's in the Gene Pool?

Carl, I don't know for sure, but i asked a friend who is very active in DU, duck hunting, and hunting regulation, and he was confident that it would not count as a black duck

    What's in the Gene Pool?

Well, Rfberan's explanation has an appealing logic to it, but I'm guessing MLBob's post is more biologically sound.

Neoprene Waders - How do Rogers compare

As of last May, LL Bean was still honoring their waders guarantee. That was the 2nd time they'd replaced my pair of waterfowling waders in about 2 or 3 years, and they agreed to my request to replace them with comparably priced fishing waders. Toward the end of summer those too began leaking...

    What's in the Gene Pool?

Shot these birds yesterday. Understand the drake to the right is a hybrid, but wonder of what. My first, obvious conclusion is a black/mallard cross, but then why is there also green on the duck's rump?

    New Grass Rails in Action

Want to share some photos of the new Steve Sanford-Style grass rails in action to say thanks for all the helpful info and suggestions provided along the way of this project. And also maybe a little brag photo in the ducks that happened to get in the picture (don't think this would have been...
