    Almost Over...

Craig, we're experiencing the same weather phenomenon in coastal NC. What's dad is the you guys don't even have birds for weather to push our way. I'm a little excited about the challenge of hunting this year. Maybe some of the less dedicated hunters will take up golf or something....

    ON THE FALLING TIDE

Anthony, I've watched your films, and you do an awesome job. I love the passion behind this film. Even though I've never hunted Great South Bay, I look forward to buying a copy. I also love how George continues the legacy of his area. I admire his diligence and conservation. "The easy way is...

    boat wiring

Scotch locks...hahaha! These things are a cruel trick on humanity! I've used them wiring a trailer before. I've never had them survive one trip.

    Wingsetter Decoys

My cousin and I found my uncle's stash of Herters a couple weeks ago when cleaning out a barn. He had a bunch of the old "suc duck" decoys. We found a method of weighting them (so they self right) by adding a composite deck board to the bottom. It still keeps them much light in weight to a full...

    update and hunt report

Way to go, Andrew! It sounds like you've found a super place to call home! Hard work scouting usually pays off, and killing that beautiful pintail makes all the work worthwhile. Great job!

    A5

Mike, My cousin bought a new A5, but he still hunts with his old one. He says the old ones point better. I guess he isn't the only person with that feeling.

    boat wiring

One suggestion, get a spring-loaded splicing tool. It's way easier to splice wire with the spring-loaded tool compared to the regular one. I worked as a rigger at a boat manufacturer one summer. An old Hispanic dude taught me about wiring. I also recommend getting a butane torch to heat up th...

    Running Lights

I'm partial to the battery-operated LED's. They're so simple to install. If one goes bad, you can get a new set for $30. Its worth $30 not to have to fiddle with bulbs, heat shrinking wires, etc. As I get older, I increasingly value simplicity.

Thomas had a great day. Me, not so much.

    ETech 25 Issues--Fuel Line??

There's supposed to be an alarm for an overheating situation, but it could be messed up. Does the impeller water that shoots out the back of the engine feel hot? Another thing to consider: My E-Tec had to be programmed for the XD-100 oil. The other option was XD-50 oil. I'm not sure which...

    ETech 25 Issues--Fuel Line??

I had a 90 hp E-tec for a couple years. Mine had an issue where the oil level sensor (in the oil reservoir) would act up in a following sea. The alarm soils sound, and the engine would shut down to an idle. It annoyed me pretty bad, but all-in-all that was a great engine.

    Suggestions for New Duck Boat

Phil, the most promising Devlin around is a 2-owner BBIII, and it's selling with no motor...so running it may be tough. But it doesn't hurt to ask! After hearing you guys' input, I'm realizing that I may have some unrealistic expectations. My budget, unfortunately, isn't the most flexible...

Long Island Ice Scooter - Rehab efforts - 8/30 update, Anchor box and input for motor box

Dave, Cool boat! I love her lines. Very "pumpkinseed-y!" I hope you get that ol' one-lunger running strong! That's a mighty fine blast from the past.

    federal duck stamp problems

At my local post office, they told me that the stamp would be available in Sept. 1st. I was baffled because that's cutting it mighty close on dove season. Just out of curiosity, I swung in another post office a few days later. They had a whole book in stock, and said that they'd been there...

    Suggestions for New Duck Boat

Thank you all for all your time and insight!! You've opened my eyes to some new ideas and different model boats. You are all very spot-on about the compromises that I'll have to make. There really is no "do-all" duck boat. Tony, I like the broadbill, and I've seen several on craigslist...

    Suggestions for New Duck Boat

Roy, running out of room is definitely a concern...I'm just afraid the 14 TDB will be too high to blend well in our marsh. Plus, I don't know if I can afford one. Cody, I like the Black Brants. I'm just a tad skeptical buying a used boat that's built by some random fellow. He likely isn't...

    Suggestions for New Duck Boat

Thanks, Carl! I'm intending to hunt 2 men from one boat. Bill, I've seen the duck bosses...I'm gonna look at them with a little more intensity. I think it looks like a good fit, too. Thanks!

    Suggestions for New Duck Boat

Hello Everyone! I really want some input on a duck boat. I’m sorry for the length of this post, but I can’t ask you for suggestions and insight without giving you the details of my “situation.” I’m new to this site, but I think I’ve finally found some like-minded brethren. I’m only 33...
