    Boat build recommendations

Wilson, May be a little bit more than you are looking for, but a Devlin Broadbill is one man and a dog, slightly over 10', VERY stable, plans say 105lbs (you have to work to keep it at that), and takes a motor up to 15hp. Very capable boat across a wide range of hunting conditions. It rows...

    Glue for foam boat build?

HI, I've used gorilla glue when laminating pink foam insulation sheets for making decoys and been very happy with the results. You might try that. Would definitely want to test it out a boat falling apart is a lot more critical than a decoy. v/r Bill

Back where I need to be

Steve, Nice bag- and glad to see you back out after the birds. One of my old skeet mentors had lost vision in his right (dominant) eye, and wore an eye patch. He switched to shooting left handed as he did not want to shoot one of those cross body stocks that center the barrel under the eye of...

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

David, I'm running a late model (and popular, I might add) Yamaha 25 2-stroke on the BB2. At 105lbs in short shaft, they used to be one of the lightest, and are definitely strong running. Yamaha quit selling them in the U.S. around 2010, but I believe they still sell the same model oversees...

It's funny how duck boats come into our lives

Dave, Nice to see you bring the old boat back to life. Looks like you did a 1st rate job and you're ready for season. What are you going to power it with? Amazing how the foam picks up water over. Do you know if the boat was stored outside? Really wish folks had been talking about putting...

    New trailer for the Snowgoose!!!!

Tod, Unfortunately, things like this is why I do as much of my own maintenance as possible, to include greasing hubs and rotating tires.

    A Paying Gig

Very nice. Nothing like getting paid for something you enjoy doing!

    OOOUUUUCCCHHHH!

Eric, Glad you are ok. I have done a similar thing on a harbor freight 8 inch with buffing wheel shining brass and getting it sucked under the guard (at least it jammed the motor and did not keep spinning). Maybe you need a sand blaster??

Advice for a newbie on a Devlin repair/restoration

Richard, Looking good- top notch work. I think you will like having the strake face fully covered in aluminum; they will be able to withstand some real abuse from ice, rocks, oyster beds, and the like. Keep the pics coming! -Bill

    More Facebook Marketplace Loonies

Yes, same here, too. We have bulk trash on Monday, but there is at least 1 truck that runs the neighborhood Sunday afternoon that will take about anything metal or with any potential residual value.

    Shotgun of Choice?

Troy, Nothing like the smell of hot paper shells. Do you like the RSTs? I bought a couple cases of Federal papers for skeet doubles. Even in 1oz and cylinder choke they hit hard. EDIT- Sorry, nevermind; I looked to quickly at the orange hull in your pics and thought you were shooting RST...

    sander/polisher recommendations

Very useful tool for boat building. I have a Harbor Freight version that has lasted 2 builds and going strong (just added that on your other post), and the price is right. Plastic backing and 7" fiber grinding disc with coarse abrasive and those keels will turn to dust. They'll even grind ss...

Advice for a newbie on a Devlin repair/restoration

Jamus, Good to see you on here. I'd forgotten to mention the grinder. My "go to" tool for correcting stubborn wood/epoxy that needs neatened up is a 7" Harbor Freight variable speed buffer. With a 7" plastic backing and anywhere between 34- 60 grit fiber disk you can really work down bumps...

    Shotgun of Choice?

Remington 11-87 for ducks and geese; 11-87 20 or Citori 12ga for quail. The 11-87 12 gauge, which my wife bought for me around 91, is my go to hunting gun. It's most important feature is it fits me well, second most important feature is the beat up wood stock which makes me smile from the...

Advice for a newbie on a Devlin repair/restoration

Richard, Nice boat; definitely a BB2. And judging by the condition of the bottom of the boat, it's not been run hard. I've built a BB2 and Broadbill, and am in the process of wrapping up a Cackler. Love the BB2; have had it out fishing the last few weekends. My boats have mostly been...

Devlin Cackler Build, continuing with deck beams and electrical

Steve, Some of us did not get to go through a boat building apprenticeship and have to beat the wood into submission. Half the fun is in learning how, and sites like this and the information you and others have shared helps those who want to learn. Yes, it is not fun cutting holes in...

Devlin Cackler Build, continuing with deck beams and electrical

I could see where the terms could get interchanged and the precise meaning lost, especially since you don't see a lot of wooden boats out there anymore or people dedicated to building them. Take care, Bill
