Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

I've bought an Iowa out of state hunting license every year since my yearly 20s because of the amount of public land they offer for hunting as well as other outdoor sports compared to what Illinois offers. Of course you know that. As you mentioned the farm lobby dictates what happens in Iowa and...

    Grumman Sportboat Repaint/Power/Field Testing Update

I have a 17' grumman canoe I haul in the bed of my pickup. It's finally to heavy for me to do much moving let alone cartop. I use one of these with a pair of kayak rollers...

Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

Rick, I love your writing about the area. I was talking to another angler and he told me about an on going litigation that would effect the area that would ruin the whole area. Apparently someone has started a company that would collect and distribute manure from 11,600 head of cattle on a...

Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

We fished the area to the far left from Bloody Run Creek WMA Monday and yesterday. It was close to the camp ground. We went the the WMA today but didn't last long. Vickie rolled her ankle on a rock. She's not used to wearing waders so we went back to the camper. Heading back home in the morning.

Advice on sneakbox - AA Broadbill or MLB Wigeon

Welcome Scott. I was born in St Johns, Newfoundland. I was born on an Air Force Base my dad was stationed at. I hope to take a trip there someday. I'll be 69 next month so I guess I better hurry. I'm sure nothing looks like the photographs I have. Lol. Reading your accounts brings back thoughts...

Yes. We're in the area that converges in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota. It can get pretty rugged here in the area. Bloody Creek, Blood Run Creek and Blood Creek are a few names used and is named for the native Americans battles in the area. Some pretty overlooks of the Mississippi River valley...

Hitting some upper Iowa trout streams this week.

We are staying at a family owned camp ground called Spook Cave. We're in the area of Blood Creek. Not much of a fly fishing area. A few in the 8" size. Going to another area we heard about this afternoon.

And maybe a trip over to Prairie Du Chien, WI for a walk about in Cabela's. This morning the trout eluded me but I'll be back. Then back home to get ready for bow season and some brushing on my Drake duck bind.

    Hand built wooden boat

Howard! I could not remember his name Bob. Someone posted years ago he had pasted on if I remember right. I thought that was an interesting boat design. I remember him posting how he brought the sides together with ratch straps to build that bow. It looked to be a difficult process to keep the...

    Sometimes it's the simple things...

I decided to smoke a couple of goose breasts today. A simple brine of water celery salt and onion. Then 6 hours in the smoker. Finished frying in a pan with barbecue sauce. Delicious on a bun with tater tots!

    Wader update

Frogg Toggs have a less that stellar review around here from fellow hunters. I tried the Frogg Togg hip water last year and sent them back. Total crap! I'll be interested in your review of the TideWe.

    Hand built wooden boat

That's a good looking boat. We had a member here that was building them in the early 2000's. You can find the plans here. Scroll to the bottom of the page. It's called "Sneak Boat" https://www.svensons.com/boat/

    Waders - The usual question

If they hold up like the Cabela's of old, that would be great but even if they don't and if the price stays at a decent price point I'll buy them again. These are what I bought. They sold out fast in my size last year...
