Photo taken while walking into work today (12/6)

I've been having a tough time getting motivated. Small ponds have been open, we've just come off the 2nd wettest Nov. on record with the CT River in or close to flood the whole time. So today was just par for the course. Walking into work I was greeted by: Here's a bit of a close up for...

A Young Man's First Boat Project

Super job Thomas! I hope you all don't mind me chuckling a little, seeing a tin boat project from the Patterson clan. Post up when you find out how she runs. Looking forward to the stories. Eric, is that cork up on the selves? Are we going to see you, or Thomas, turning out decoys? Love...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

The following is a write-up supplied with the jet conversion. If I had read this first I may not have invested in the jet adapter, thinking I could use it on my Starcraft. Would I still have gone jet? Not sure as I would have been more aware of what the addition would cost me. For those who...

Hi Mike, Thanks! Sure just drop her off with a big check for materials, I have a great time messing with boats. And if you are interested in a SXS sneak boat hunt, I'd be up for joining you. I got an aluminum one of those too.

Hi Eric, I was bummed to read about Jeff's outboard, I hope Karma bites them hard. Thanks for the complements, I'm extremely please how she's turning out. Since you asked (thank you,) the Starcraft rig decked and empty with the 25 hp Nissan w/o the rock hopper would hit about 25 mph. I...

Thanks Ed, I'm looking at Hull Speed Smart Armor, 3 coats = 1 QT rolled on. I'm not expecting to turn soft aluminum into a 500 bhn AR plate but if rocks scrape the coating off instead of the aluminum, I'll be happy. Next year project so it will be a coupe of years for a review. Best! Scott

I haven't gotten her back out on the water but I've addressed the 1/8" thick coaming as far as sitting and comfort goes. The helmsman's seat was added, a section of the channel added behind the aft coaming providing a solid 3" wide seat. The side coamings got a 1X1 inch tube riveted along...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

Rainy day Thursday was spent wrapping up the aft deck. creating the penetrations for the bilge pump outlet and one for the engine's gas and electric lines. I ran the motor's lines through a chunk of bike tire inner tube to protect them at the aluminum interface. The Vinyl boot is installed to...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

The previous build post left the boat stuffed with flotation, ready for decking. As most projects go it's taking three times as long as I expected but progress is being made. First step is cutting the panels out that will make up the deck. The sides are the two 10' X 10" strips sheared off...

    Hunting Etiquette in your area

Eric, Since you asked: CT regulations; "A hunting party shall include no more than six individuals, with a minimum distance of 100 yards between parties." Still way too close but opening days on state marshes can be a zoo. It's been a long time since I played that game. Best way was to have...

Hi Roy, I have given a thought or two to crowning the foredeck, but quickly blew it off for this rig. Besides being sexy the only benefit I can see is for shedding water quicker. The draw backs are many, equipment, decoys and dog will slide off the deck, it's much harder to construct, I...

    Don't put it off.

Rectal and Colon Cancer is totally preventable. Eric, thank you for posting this important message. I probably wouldn't have followed your advice if you had posted it a dozen years ago when I was 50. Let me try and reinforce the message. It doesn't matter how tough you are. How you never...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

Ed, Not sure if I said it correctly, I referred to to the old reader rig link above to make sure you saw how the wood deck was framed out: Add supports to the seats and fab up some rail clamps and you have a on/off deck that doesn't add any holes/ modification to the boat. Brad, Thanks for...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

Thanks Ed, Did you check out the link (both pages) of my first wood deck? The deck worked very well. It was based on an article in Chuck Lichon's book, Waterfowling Boats, Blinds & Related Gear. The original builder actually saw my write up and contacted me through this site. I love...

Thanks Steve, Having grown up on the rocky side of Long Island Sound I have a warm spot for aluminum hulls. Besides, they've been round since the end of WWII so they are bordering on historical, yes? Best! Scott
