    Lay Out Boat

Thats an open water layout, generally used in or close to a large rig of divers, they are usually carried on deck or towed to location, depending on design it may or may not tow well, probably won't row or pole well either, and of course there's no motor. For marsh hunting there's better options...

Dog question for the brain trust here

The only thing I can say is that we've been watching Dr Pol on TV, and when he's wrapping a leg for bandages he sprays an ether base starter fluid on the hair before wrapping and he claims it helps the tape and wrap stick better. He does horses and cows hoofs and legs that are standing in manure...

    Am I too old?

Everyone is different, and ages different. I'm 67, can still fish commercially, standing up, but getting up and down, or in and out of a layout is difficult, arthritis throughout the body, new hips, and bad everything else. Even the recoil of my 12 guage double is painful. Not whining, it is...

Any tips for repairing leaking decoys?

Plastic welder is probably best, I just get a small squeeze tube of black or brown silicone and give them a dab...

    Crabbers Gloves??

The integral liner gloves are a total pain to get dry, The liner gloves are so much better, I like to use the military wool liners in mine, I think they are a little warmer, and they give you a little more room in the glove for circulation. Bring two pairs of gloves and liners, you won't regret...

Ever kick a guy out of your group because he's too cheap?

Sounds like my late brother, wants to go duck hunting but has no boat, (I used a one man rig), no waders, no ammo, no proper clothes. So I get him there, cram him into the boat, set the decoys, retrieve the ducks, and he has the chutzpah to complain I brought the ducks too close and he couldn't...

I'm going to grass my boat

The last picture is of Phragmites, here we call it cattails, The Alterniflora, or cord grass works ok for grassing but falls apart faster, the patens, marsh hay, or meadow hay, can be found on slightly higher elevation in the salt meadows,

    Buying a handgun

My daughter that never showed any interest in guns moved to Texas, within a year she bought a handgun and got her concealed carry permit,....must be the water,, The range in her town lets you rent pretty much anything you want to try at a reasonable cost, might be good if she can do that to see...

    Boat Soup

We used to use something like that on our Tong boat decks that was constantly in contact with sun, salt and abrasion from shellfish and other bottom debris and foot traffic, very old fashioned but worked well. As for interior use, it should work well, but the pine tar would probably not be...

    Prop size?

If I remember correctly, and lately that can vary, lol, you pick up about 500 rpm or a little more, per inch of pitch, so if you have a 19 pitch, a 17 should get you where you want to be.

Need some ideas for attaching droppers to long lines...

I don't use droppers, or clips, on decoys that have a rear attachment, I tie the decoys fore and aft on the mainline, you could also tie a short loop in the mainline where you want the decoy after threading in a large snap swivel and fasten the snap to the decoy. there are zero tangles this...

    Bamboo push pole

Thanks P Taylor for the info... You said you sealed the holes, did you do the expanding foam too? Guys, look around your area, I'd be surprised if there wasn't any bamboo in your areas, The stuff was used a lot for screening, which it excels at, and escapes captivity real easy. Here on L.I...

    Bamboo push pole

P taylor, thats one of the techniques I read about, including the vent holes, did you have a problem with the nodes bursting when heated, or did you follow someones instructions?. The vents make sense, you don't need, or want an explosion....

    Bamboo push pole

No, it's real bamboo, this stuff has gone feral and grows everywhere and spreads like crazy, no problem cutting 20 foot canes, just got to find a variety thats big enough in diameter, I'm thinking 1 3/4 -2" at the base. I would prefer black spruce, I've got acres of it but don't have time to...

New 10 foot ( Mark Kears) sneakbox update 7-13

That is a very nice box....the plywood could very well be original. I once built a box from a 10' sailfish fg hull that looks almost exactly like that one except for the v bottom. I used 1/4" plywood for the decking to keep it light, and the ply does bend to the crown of the deck. The only...
