    Boston Whaler Duckboat

Had an OLD whaler that we used to hunt out of eons back, which I powered with a 25 hp Johnson short shaft. Easy to conceal, as I did a Petit dull dead grass paint job on it. It came from Center Island, in N Y. Somehow, my Dad was given the boat, and passed it to me. That was one helluva good...

Dave, it kind of depends upon where you are going with them. If real serious, BUBBLE WRAP

What's on your WORK BENCH - DECEMBER 2020

You need to re-address the collar on the NECK of the brant. It is a LOT lower than you anve indicated. Also note, the atlantic has an incomplete collar. The brant might not care, but you will eventually do something about that. Nothing lasts forever, well, that I am aware of, so be prepared to...

    Redhead or Ringneck?

Dave in either case, I would say juvie, but size wise, lean toward ringneck. There is a faint whitish on the bill, BUT, it seems you put a pellet there. As an aside, I find that picking ringnecks is almost impossible. That would be a pretty good tell for me, also. Good to see your interest in...

mallyards pitching into a decoy in the shop, Pair of minimallards and an oversized drake, who is now keeled. Bottom needs paint, then it will be boxed for a journey to Vermont. I play with minifliers when I have naught to do or someone requests them. Painting all at the same time is kind of...

Decoy Carving - Bandsaw a necessity?

Amen on the Craftsman..One of my first shop additions and I found I could do various things as a lefty that dexters could or would not try. Practice makes better--I have an old Sears that has had a few motors and bearings, and it has served me quite well, thank you. That and a Foredom Tool and...

Decoy Carving - Bandsaw a necessity?

Steve covered bases. Stay focused when using it. I do a ton of carving with the bandsaw--cutting off edges, for me, anyway, saves time, and being a lefty, no one ever told me I COULDN'T do it. Find your own path--Eventually, you will find it an invaluable tool,[;)]

    Long Island Opening Week/Cooking Brant

Eons ago, I cubed up a bunch of breasts--brant, of course--seared and turned them into chili, which a bunch of friends and I shared. They all swore they were eating venison! Next day, I put leftover brant chili on the stove to reheat--BAD MOVE! The cabbage smell pervaded everything. It was...

    Long Island Opening Week/Cooking Brant

Breast, remove ALL fat, grill medium rare. DO NOT pick and roast in oven. You will be sorry. Brant are best eaten the day they are shot. DO NOT FREEZE, as this just further enhances the sea cabbage aroma. I can tell you that I NEVER ate a bad one!

    Cork question

I do not think that any of the acrylic products are designed for 24/7 immersion. When I seal with gac, I do two or three coats, then do a base of carbon black before painting. If your intent is 24/7 I would suggest some sort of marine varnish.

    Cork question

GAC 100, matte acrylic floor sealer. A couple coats will serve you well, as any unsealed spaces may cause wicking of water into the body. GAC100 is an acrylic sealer from Golden Acrylic paints--May be available via theitalianartstore.com
