See Rooster, the switch to sinister wasn't that bad after all! You may also find that a pass from left to right is going to become quite desirable![sly]

    Re-sealing cork decoys?

Larry, how long ago were they made? What type of cork did you use when you made them? What kind of paint was applied? A few shots of what they look like now, along with answers to the questions will help a ton. If you used Golden Acrylics, drop me a note with species and I will forward you my...

What's on your WORK BENCH - SEPTEMBER 2020

Always a need to upgrade the flock , even occasionally. Ballard just sent me an image from some guy in the Rochester area that picked up 9 of my corks that were working up your way. Sweet 16 they are. Come on paisan, you don't want to leave this world with all that unused wood, do you?[smile]

Mike, there appears to be an inconsistency between side application and the rest of the bird. Now, try to match that color with the hard edged appearance.[;)]

    Susquehanna Flats Style Decoys

DAYUM, That first hen mallard to left on table is also a Mitchell mallard. I still have some of those along with blacks that occasionally hit the water. I think Bill Mauldin, no relation to terry and the pirates was responsible for the body pattern. Do not quote me, though. Last pair I...

    Susquehanna Flats Style Decoys

The ones on the table appear to be from Madison Mitchell's shop, including that snappy looking cork drake mallard in front left. Jess Urie was from Rock Hall. Frequently, decoys from that area were affixed with heads by other makers, or turned into stove wood.

    Blue-wing Teal Paints

Hang on there, ponder. It is possible to put oil over latex, but not the other way round. I recall that from my art days. If you abrade, and the paint is well cured, it may be possible.. That is why Bocour came up with Magma years ago--both oil and water miscible. Only time I have ever seen...

Canvasback Drake working decoys - coloring the back

Titanium white to which a bit of raw umber is added. If you paint thickly, allow paint some time to set up, then comb. When dry, LIGHTLY dry brush the top of the area with carbon black. That should produce the can back result. Since sides are white, just use the titanium white and less raw...

Steve, when I compare the ones in the morgue, the pac looks like the one in the pic, also that collare seems a lot larger, Atlantics have a pretty incomplete collar as opposed to their left coast cousins, which are almost complete. Nice image, though.[;)]

What's on your WORK BENCH - August 2020

Rooster, from the forepart of the sides, I am apt to guess that the picture is a pacific, rather than an atlantic., unless it is an OLD adult. Past the chest, about a third of that side appears quite dark on a pac, and extends right onto the belly. Ours, on the other hand, are greyish.. My...
