Hi Vince - After looking at dozens of images of pintails on the water, almost all have their tails up. The few that had their tails touching the water, were about to tip up to feed which is what this guy was doing between shots - who knew !

Steve - you really help so many people with info and ideas. It looks like the SSWF is a great bunch and I wish I was closer. BTW, your website had some very helpful info on restoring black duck decoys. I don't carve and want to touch up some LL blacks and got just the info I needed.
THANKS !

Ed -That was a hoot......nothing like getting wet in cold weather and no truth to the rumor that I once rolled a canoe with a young lab who wanted to help paddle and then changed in my truck and went back out indian style with an army blanket belted at the waist but at least it was dry !

Dani - Wow what country and it looks like some good shooting. Up here in N E you have to have ESP to shoot grouse. Always putting a tree between you and them. Are they any easier in that country which looks somewhat open ?

Hi Steve - great post and very helpful, especially to those of us with little knowledge or experience refinishing decoys. I am looking forward to rehabbing some coastal magnums.
I just took a moment to view your website and now have it bookmarked. Love the story of the gunning box and I may try...
Hi Pat - I was not familiar with this artist - what great work and the 4 of them really convey the experience in a straight forward, direct way. The last one is easily worth 10,000 words. Thanks !

Vince - I know what your mean about not firing in intense weather. Many years ago, we were out on a marsh on the bay side of cape cod in Barnstable. A front went through that produced rain to snow with howling winds and lightning and thunder. This was coupled with a buster of a high tide that...
Hi Vince - yes it's wire and I was mistaken. The decoy is also fairly heavy which seems to be caused by the wood base. Not sure if gunners would be this heavy. I got to fish inside of Oregon inlet once and there is a lot of area in a big sound. Apparently, Currituck had a rich tradition but...
Great stuff Paul, thanks for posting. It's interesting how many different areas on the east coast had their own methods and traditions. I have a canada goose decoy made with canvas and slats from the Currituck Sound. The guy who made it was in his 80s and his wife had old news articles of the...
