Info on Breaking Ice with 14 Classic TDB from TDB owners

I bust ice pretty much every year. Mostly salt, but now and then in the fresh water. I've done it with glass boats, including a 17' Duck Wrangler. The glass takes a beating, if I was the OP I would avoid it wherever possible. I take aluminum boats whenever I can in the ice. As you say, take your...

    Fun With Old Iron

Loading a 1400 pound machine solo is impressive. It's amazing what can be accomplished with relatively simple tools.

    October Workbench

Decisions, decisions! If possible, I'd prefer a cut or burned logo. Scaling up a logo designed for a regular call may look strange on Godzilla's call. But if that's not practical any of your ideas would look great. A cool look might be checkering, knurling or fluting. Fluting will reduce the...

    October Workbench

Eric, You come up with some nice solutions during builds. That jig is one example. I'm thinking those calls are going to need a logo or artwork. Have you thought about something along those lines?

    1938 Perrine 15ft gunning sneakbox

Another in the rounded camp. A rounded cockpit coaming is on the to-do list for my next couple of boat builds.

    BBSB Pond Box Build

Very true. It's hard to describe the feeling of one stroke and a long glide, together with the gentle hiss smooth water makes against the curved hull. Magical for the poet in the waterman. I have not rowed a South Bay, is it a good hull for rowing? Actually I've never been aboard one in the...

    All Things Flocking

Thank you both. As always very informative. A lot of ideas to digest before making my first mess.

    All Things Flocking

As I understand it, the plan is to place two layers of paint (adhesive) and flock to get the basic color patterns on the decoy. Then you and your son add detail with an airbrush. I see that you prefer to use the Rustoleum through the airbrush. A couple of questions, as my airbrush experience is...

    BBSB Pond Box Build

It must be a regional thing. All of our boats were rowed and gunned facing over the stern. I've tried to row a sneakbox facing forward and it just feels wrong, but to each his own. As a point of interest, when we were young kids (8 on up) exploring alone in a boat, we weren't normally allowed...

    All Things Flocking

I second that. When I finish the current boat, it's on to flocking.

    BBSB Pond Box Build

So, just curious. I think you said you prefer to row facing forward. I'm the opposite. The curiosity comes in regarding your photo, which way is forward on that scooter? Our boats had the spray shield forward.

    BBSB Pond Box Build

Good idea to point that out. I always do it, and the oarlock holder is shaped the way it is to allow flow through of the deck wash and relieve the drain hole. The photo was taken before the hardware and all the holes were drilled.

    BBSB Pond Box Build

Brought it out into the light for a look. As mentioned previously, I'm a rookie dodger maker. I wanted to see if I could make one large enough for Gunner to sit on the foredeck, so it's intentionally wider than the cockpit. My feeling is that the first laminated hoop turned out a little big...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

I wouldn't mind the shutdowns so much if it actually resulted in no government spending during the shutdown. Aside from the chaos it creates in the life of the workers, it accomplishes nothing but filling news cycles with talking heads pointing fingers. When a "deal" is reached it'll be back to...
