    Two-Tier Bag Limits Coming?

Make the 3-duck limit good for only the first 1-3 years a hunter buys a license in that state. Allows new hunters to learn skill in identifying but prevents abuse by seasoned hunters. Still some potential abuse by seasoned hunters who go to states where they never hunted before while claiming...

Been awhile since we played: can you find the snake?

I love a good snake story so I must chime in. As a teenager in Southwestern PA we went on a couple rattlesnake hunting expeditions. We only found them when we weren't looking for them, i.e. hiking, etc. We never found any while looking for them even when told by some old-timers where to go in...

What's on your Work Bench - MAY 2023

Steve, what type of wood is that motor board? Will be interesting to see how that evolves. I am thinking of upgrading from plywood to something more durable on my BBSB...mine has taken a beating...

Going to Ohio Decoy Show this weekend?

It was a great show. Almost too much to take in with Ballrooms and two floors of hotel rooms stuffed with decoys old and new, all manner of waterfowling objects, etc. I also met 3 other forum members face-to-face for the first time. The tension in the water tank testing room was quite interesting.

Anyone ever see a decoy weight like this before?

Nice color on those wild Browns! Reminds me of native Brookies I caught as a kid (where a 10 inches was a big one) but the fins are a dead giveaway. Thanks for the report...

    Trailer Fixin

Roy, makes no sense to me either. At least Wesco used galvanized Unbolts instead of stainless Unbolts. Shop that did my trailer rebuild indicated that stainless Unbolts cause the aluminum cross members to corrode-through even faster than galvanized Unbolts do. Makes sense given the galvanic...

Anyone ever see a decoy weight like this before?

Joe, that's cool, never saw that before but now I will keep an eye out for one. But No Deal for me at $345...will likely sell to an App State parent who feels they deserve a treat too after paying tuition . Did you get to the Mast General Store? Also there used to be a really good bookstore...

    Trailer Fixin

No doubt a freshwater dunk/immersion does a whole lot better than even a very thorough hose wash down. First five years I used my Wesco aluminum trailer in saltwater but had a stop halfway home (3 hour drive) with a convenient freshwater dunk. Saw virtually no corrosion on my rig. Then I moved...

Going to Ohio Decoy Show this weekend?

Dave D, thanks for responding. Hopefully our paths will cross on Saturday and maybe another forum member or two will be there too. Always good to put a face with a name...

Going to Ohio Decoy Show this weekend?

Anybody going this weekend? I have ever been to this one but it looks like a pretty good show. I will be there on Saturday. If you see a guy wearing a fluorescent orange Stihl hat (making myself readily visible/identifiable) , stop me and say "hello", OK?

Head banging - satisfying the VA DNR

Just when I thought the worst part of waterfowl hunting in VA is the Blind Laws, this boat registration ordeal "takes the cake". Good luck.

    Al

Really sad to hear of this. Al's photos and stories always did a great job of taking my mind away to the Southwest, imagining what waterfowling in that arid land must be like--far different from the other regions of US where I have hunted. In a couple PM's back-and-forth Al was always kind and...

    price of vintage decoys

Interesting prices on those smallbore Parkers. A buddy of mine had a Parker (12 or 16gauge I am unsure which) with Damascus barrels that he never got around to getting appraised/test fired before he passed away in 2019. Interesting that a great uncle gave it to my friend. The uncle fellow...

    price of vintage decoys

That DOES appear to be a shoulder-fired gun vs. a boat-mounted punt gun. Ouch! Nice-looking piece of history. If that gun could talk I'm sure it would tell some stories.

Duck season has come to a close

Great story Dani even though no game was taken. What gauge smoothbore/slugs are you shooting and what do you think your maximum effective range is? Open sights or scope (or neither, i.e. sighting down the rib, etc)?

Best cover while hunting Higbee Sneakbox.

Thanks for additional inputs folks. I have confirmed with my wife that she has sewn fabrics equivalent to 600 Cordura. Now I need to begin sourcing the fabric, nylon webbing, fiberglass poles, synthetic (or natural) grass, etc. Unfortunely this makes me even more anxious for next year's season...

Best cover while hunting Higbee Sneakbox.

Wow! Thanks for the inputs! Each and every one of your replies has a somewhat different approach but also some common elements. My wife is a pretty good seamstress although I am unsure what thickness of materials her sewing machines are up to handling. This will make a great off-season...

    What have I been gifted?

The River Monsters decal might be a Facebook or other group that fishes for Snakeheads. Can/did you ask the previous owner/donor about the decal? I am always sheepish about going back to Sellers to ask a question that I should have asked in the first place. But in this case on such a nice...
