    Minnesota in October

Dani, It sounds like you have plenty of locals giving advice. Here's my two cents. I in the NW corner of MN 35 years ago. I hunted grouse where the woods and prairie transitioned, east of Crookston. The woods were narrow, 50-150 yards wide, and long. Grouse flushed flew either in front...

    Penetrating epoxy sealer...over kill?

Steve and RM, Thanks for responses. After rereading my post I can see how it was confusing about the order of products. The order would be stain, epoxy, varnish. Any brand preferences on the epoxy? I am leaning towards the Total Boat.

    Penetrating epoxy sealer...over kill?

I'm rebuilding a wood and cast iron bench. I am planning on using white oak. The plan for the bench is to be on a covered porch. It will get some weather exposure. I was thinking of using penetrating epoxy to seal the oak after staining and the multiple coats of spar varnish. Is the epoxy...

    Turkey Season

I went to grad school at UF in Gainesville. I did a fair amount of turkey hunting. As a Yankee, I grew up in IL, I was not overly fond of snakes. Runs with snakes while turkey hunting were nil. I would see more while roosting birds in the evening. I would not be afraid to hunt without snake...

    Indiana Sandhill Crane Survey

Ohio has their annual survey coming this Saturday. There are nesting pairs in my county, I am a little off the bullseye for the main nesting area. I usually see one or two local birds during the summer in-flight. I doubt OH will be proposing a season any time soon...

    Hurricane Idalia

Nine feet is a lot of water for Cedar Key and surrounding area. When at UF I hunted the Cedar Key Scrub a number of times. We would also fish too. Most of my friends live inland, Archer/Gainesville. I wonder how many of those who tried to 'ride it out' would do it again?

    Sudan grass (sorghum)

Sudan grass is used primarily as forage, hay or cover crop. Since it has been mowed once already I doubt it would produce any type of seed. Most commercial varieties are a hybrid which doesn't produce seed. It will most likely be mowed/harvested at least once more. Geese may feed on it as it...

    off topic,,,,,, insect? nest identification

Tod is correct. Nest is from last year. You can tear it out if you want. Seal the hole. Be cautious about sealing up active nests you might find later in the year. They will look for a new exit or explore their surroundings and show up places you don't want. Tom

What's on your WORK BENCH - JULY 2021

Eric, I love seeing what you do with your tractor. I am partial to that color of green myself. You may want to think about a way to add weight to the front end of the tractor sometime. It could be abox to hold rocks. Tom

    NDR Concrete staining

Does anyone have and experience/suggestions for staining concrete? We are in contract to buy a new home. It has a walkout basement that is finished except for the concrete floor. There are heating pipes in the floor. We are thinking about staining and sealing the lower level floors, about...

    A simple canoe rehab

Steve, Thanks for sharing the project, I may have to keep my eyes peeled for cheap canoes now. Have you weight the canoe after the rehab? Just wondering. Tom
