Greg~
I was assuming you would do that!
Headed out right now to prep a pre-WW II whaleback scooter for hauling north - a project boat going to a young hunter up in Ontario. Back to the web later tonight.....
All the best,
SJS
Nancy~
I do not know who built this nice little vessel - but I agree with others here that it is in the "family" of gunning boats usually called "midwestern duck skiffs".
WARNING: Names given to types of duckboats vary tremendously, are mostly local, and can easily be confused. Sometimes...

I have seen the same scenario. While not a warden (ECO in New York), I was the senior (mid 30s?) staff who quietly explained to a new officer that one needs to "cite" a specific section of a statute or regulation when writing a "citation" - hence the term. Is that concept not made clear...
Good morning, Dax~
Sound repairs, no doubt! I am wondering, though, why those deck boards failed? Your photos - and the stain lines - suggest that the leaves sitting there off-season held moisture and allowed rot.
All the best,

Anthony~
Thanks for this note!
I will attend - but as a mere visitor. My Mom has made a remarkable recovery over the past few weeks - but still needs our attention and company. Susan and I will be in East Islip for a few days. I hope to get to Cedar Beach for 2 or 3 hours Saturday morning...

Question: Saltwater Ice or Freshwater Ice? I have lots of experience with the former - almost none with the latter - viz. breaking with a boat for gunning. Salt ice is somewhat soft and plastic - will bend before it breaks under the weight of the hull. Freshwater ice is quite...
Good morning, SJ~
"If you can row, you can go".
I have never owned a gunning boat that could not be rowed (except for my canoes....). As it happens, I have an Armstrong Blackjack and a South Bay Duckboat in my restoration queue (for customers) right now - neither is set up for rowing. But -...
Good morning, Bob~
Count me in with Eric and Fred - keep that gorgeous rounded cockpit and its coaming. As you know, such a detail has long been a sure sign of craftsmanship and that bit of extra care/attention-to-detail that separates the "average" vessel from the special.
I put one on my...
