Poll for the northerners: How has this season stacked up?

A 3 for me. Had one or two fun days. But I have killed more Deer than ducks. I don't measure my season by body count anymore. The only true disappointment this year is that I have yet to kill a bird out of my new rig over my homemade decoys.

Does Anyone have Advice on Buying versus Making their own Decoys?

You won't save money but you will have a lot of fun making them yourself.

Go squirrelin! as Chris put it....

Soak it in a bucket with a hose. Cut off all of the feet, the tail, the head. Make a slit ACCROSS the back, get your fingers underneath and pull. Rinse with a hose. Slit the belly and gut it. You are done. I gave up on squirrels because I hated skinning them. Now I'm back in business!

NDR: Industry certifications... and associated hurdles

We have Arborist certification in my industry. It's a fairly big deal. If you can memorize a book you can pass the test, but it is a lot to learn. We have to do 30 hours of education every three years to maintain it. Took two tries to pass the exam, and I have kept it current. I don't...

Go squirrelin! as Chris put it....

I started squirrel hunting again his year after a 25 year hiatus. My buddy down in wv showed me how to skin them. Holy heck was it easy. Basically the same as anyone would tell you, just soak them wet before doing it, it keeps the hair down.

    Why I like sculling.....

Good luck to you. I'm up early as dove season came back in today. I found a field loaded with them! But couldn't find the owner...lol. I'm going to try another spot. Low pressure, time with the puppy. It will be good either way. And it is better dove weather than duck weather for sure!

    Lake erie hunters

I left a layout boat and a whole rig of decoys out there once. Came back the next day and everything was fine, but it changes fast on Erie. I fish there a lot and when you go 20 miles out you are always watching the wind.

    NDR--Eagles at the dump

When I go to British Columbia in the wintertime to visit the outlaws we usually go eagle watching. You can see several hundred in a day gorging themselves on dead salmon and other garbage. Not as majestic in that setting as they normally are. Lol.

Hey Carl: Here is where your Redheads are...

Ohio Dnr aerial surveys indicated that the migration as of 11-16 was close to normal for bird movement. Maybe only 3-5 days behind schedule. That was then. I'll be curious what it is currently when the recent results come out. I wasn't hunting them in the areas they are because I assumed...

    Sadly ....Last Post

I was really amped up this year. Made some decoys, bought a new boat and blind. Then we didn't get drawn for a blind this year. Then I looked at the Ohio aerial surveys. There are or were large numbers of birds in NW Ohio mid November. I missed it.

    Durability of Collapsible Decoy Bags?

I don't hunt enough to be a true field tester anymore but my Avery bags are ten years old and still trucking. They are wearing in places but still functional.
