Question for you guys in CT.....

Hey Mark, I grew up in branford, fished eat, west and south of there. All of it was plugging islands or fishing baits. I have heard tell that there is some flats fishing-style stuff to be had in the Norwalk islands area (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwalk_Islands). Given a boat, you...

    building w/ baltic birch

hmmm....better rethink the birch. The guy at the specialty lumber yard assured me it was made with waterproof glues, too. can anyone let me know if there are different grades of glues or, at least, different brand names/names of waterproof glues? again, thanks for the help.

    building w/ baltic birch

Good afternoon all. I'm thinking of organizing a group build of pond boxes (at least 4, maybe more), as per the Sanford recipe, and Baltic Birch was suggested. it comes 3 or 6 mm, 5'x 5', and $28 per sheet. Is there any reason we ought stay away? We're a pretty tight fisted bunch, but the...

    Does anyone know....

By way of anecdote: While chunking for bluefin off the MA coast (while a nearby dragger hauled back and culled waste-catch), we watched a blue shark go after a feeding seagull as it sat on the water. However, this was the only time in 10 years of fishing that we ever saw such a site.

    Lee Harker's Passing

As said by so many others: Godspeed, Lee. Please allow me to note that despite this medium, which can be so opaque, so impersonal, Lee's gift was an ability to transmit, to anyone, the spirit of friendship. Sincerest sympathies to his family and all his friends.

Homemade Canoe Sponson's: anyone ever try?

This rig worked on kayaks and could be rigged for a canoe. We used to do it by lashing a broomstick to the gunwall, lashed a second rod to the end, pointing fore and aft, and threaded a couple old lobster bouys to the contraption. Ugly but very, very effective.

    Brockway/Lumberyard Skiff...

Hi Nate. I grew up on Long Island Sound lobstering/sea ducking in a Brockway ( AKA "The Mutha"). We took that boat, and others of the same design, out in all the conditions the sound had to offer, and the results were definitely mixed. The boat was capable of handling a great variety of...

    1/4 luan for building?

hi all. this stuff is AKA phillipinine mahagony plywood, right? if so, is it suitable for glassing just the outside of the hull for a stillwater/lethargic streams, low profile boat. The design is my own, a double-ender, and will be car topped and dragged- so I am interested in keeping the...

Lighted Head Gear for putting out decoys

I use the same kind that I use for mountaineering- namely a Black Diamond. It works just fine and stows pretty easy in a pocket when the sun comes up. It's got the dual light stuff, and the LEDs go forever. If you like smaller, then Petzl makes some compact jobs that work well. Geoff
