To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

Eric, I was unable to find the hunter/carvers this time. In the past, the middle school was the place for them, Veneasy, Smyzer, etc, would all be there and I always found a decoy to add to my spread. This year, they used the parking lot for parking and a bus stop but nothing else. I did...

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

I was disappointed in the Waterfowl festival this yr. I had not been since Covid, but found it focused too much on drinking, and all the venues were changed and the cataloge was worthless to figure out where things were being displayed. The basement of the Elks Lodge was food, the Armory had...

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

I used FB and FB MP significantly. I prefer MP to Craigslist as I can peruse the profile and determine whom I choose to reply to. The pages I follow have very little spam, and what does appear usually get removed. I admin one page myself, along with Anthony Babich, specific to South Bay Duck...

    Looking for a new boat

Mark, you are not going to find what you want that will be light enough to make that big a difference. I would suggest working on ways to overcome the challenges. Add wheels for moving, and a winch to pull it into the truck. I added a winch for the same reason, and am finding it quite useful...

    A300 Cabela's Black Friday Sale - Purchase......

I stopped in Cabelas on the Friday before Thanksgiving to see the new A300 Ultima. I was able to handle it, cycle the action and shoulder it a couple times. Seemed like a decent budget gun. When talking the folks behind the counter, they informed me that there were just 15 of each of the 2...

    A300 Cabela's Black Friday Sale - Purchase......

I appreciate the recommendation, as I will at some point bite the bullet and get her coated, but having a spare duck gun in the safe is rather tempting too. I will swing by Cabela's tomorrow to shoulder one and then see if I want to get up to be in line at 5am on Friday!

    A300 Cabela's Black Friday Sale - Purchase......

I have "only" the A-5 Magnum that is my go to duck gun. I hate to see how the salt is hurting her, but she is past the point where I won't eventually have her refinished, and maybe coated in some fashion.... not traditional, but she is my work horse and already sports a composite stock...

    David Diefenderfer decoy

I imagine you got them from Josh Beebe? They are black cork, but because they were so dry, I sealed them with Spar Varnish, and then restle coating the to fill in some of the larger voids. I got the bodies in a huge lot of decoy stuff in OH some yrs ago. I still have some dozen puddler and a...

    Boat blind ideas?

I love the beavertail. All folds to one side, so wide open to work the rig. I added webbing straps to gunnel instead of the travel cover so wraps up at the end of the day do easy.

    Underdeck Storage Tray

I made a similar shelf for the D&K Scooter. Well, actually I repurposed one I had made for the Burdick Scull years ago. I added outdoor carpet to the bottom so that is slide easier and would not be wood on wood, or in the original case, wood on fiberglass.

Marsh Stake for Staking out Boat during Tide Change

It certainly would be, but we are hunting open water, and there is 4 to 8 ft of water on top of the 4 to 8 feet of mud. We never get out of the boat.

Marsh Stake for Staking out Boat during Tide Change

When we hunt open water in VA on the tides, we use a pair of 15ft fiberglass poles, anchor poles. These serve mutiple purposes for us; 1. the mud is 4 to 8ft thick, and no anchors have held fast in any wind 2. the use of a pole fore and aft keeps us positioned and not swinging on a anchor as...

    More projects acquired.....

Eric, I currently have 4 boats in queue. 2 are more contemporary, a Wilderness Systems Chesapeake kayak that was crushed, and a fiberglass sneak that was gifted to me that I intend to use for paddle in hunts. Getting in and out of a poke boat in hunting gear is just not safe for me anymore...

    Dodge and Krowl Ice Scooter

This 1905 Dodge and Krowl has been fully refurbished, and took best in show at the SSWA show October 2024. It comes with the sailing rig, and everthing needed to use as a self-tending layout boat. She can be sailed, rowed, towed, or motored. I have towed her at speed, and have propelled her...

    Sam Hunt BBSB

I need to free up some of my dry storage for the new projects. I have too many boats that serve very similar purposes. The Sam Hunt BBSB is a wide, displacement hull. This is the first boat I took on, and modeled it very much like Dave Clark's Estuary. You will see several details and...

    More projects acquired.....

Tom, I am sure I will be looking for some help from the scooter sailers in the area.... this has chain plates for a stayed mast, and in the bags of sails, I don't know if any of them are for this hull.... I got a bunch of spars, but again, not sure any are for this hull. Heck, even the mast...
