    Aging Ducks Before Cooking

You make very good points that are hard for me to refute with my limited knowledge on the topic. However, I and many other routinely hang unplucked and ungutted birds or throw them in the fridge 3-7 days prior to cleaning. I know of no one who has ever gotten sick after eating these birds...

How many do you want? Do I need to separate right from left when I pull them?

    A different ending

That's happened to me a couple times before with a hawk and I just popped off a couple rounds in his direction and solved the problem. Once it scared him before he got it and the other time he dropped it and flew off.

Experimenting With Finding and Cooking Ducks

Funny you should bring Hank up. I met him on a goose hunt in northern CA last week. Had a great time and there were geese everywhere! He was great to hunt with and incredibly knowledgeable when it came to cooking game. If you want a new buffie recipe, fillet the breast off the bone...

    The Cost of Duck Hunting...

Your analysis is wrong - duck meat is very cheap. Your only cost is the cost of the shell that kills the bird. All other expenses are part of your entertainment budget. It's like if you took the family to Disneyworld for a few days and spent a couple thousand on airfare, another thousand on...

    .17HMR rifle--- help me choose

If your wallet is thin, the Savage is great rifle for the money. But if your wallet is a little thicker, look into the Anschutz. Probably triple the money but oh man is it a nice rifle!

    Conservation oriented banquets....

I'm the chairman of the Fresno CWA Dinner. We were the largest dinner in the state last year with 525 people. We sell out every year and don't really try to sell tickets. We charge $75/man or $125/couple and have an open bar. My advise for what it's worth: Make it different than every...

    Nice while it lasted

I'd give anything for some of your weather. We had mid 70's here last week. Got cold and rainy over the weekend with about an inch of rain and 38 degrees one morning. While that may sound great to you, we are having a terrible drought. Hundreds of wells have gone dry, lawns and yards are...

    Plastic Goose Decoys

I'd run a test. Just a time or two put the bigfoots out in pit blind and see how they work. Then go to the effort and put some stuffers at a hedgerow blind. That will tell you if it's the decoys or the hedgerow.

NDR Pacific NW, Seattle and Victoria Canada area

I went there for my honeymoon many years ago. The Buschart Gardens are really pretty. But my favorite was the small town of Tofino. Quiet little fishing town on the water. Hire a guide and salmon fish for a day and/or just hike in the beautiful woods

When is cold weather a factor?

We had a really cold day here last week that everyone one was talking about. We had a 20 MPH wind and 34 degree temps. Man it was cold - had to put a Columbia shell over the polar fleece - brrrr. Then every 5-10 years we'll get a big cold snap with morning temps in the low 20's and the ice in...

If you could pick your prize

One more tip. Selling trips in your auction is much better than selling things. It's very hard to get artwork, guns, decoys, etc cheap enough to make a good profit and anyone who has been to a few dinners has already got a bunch of that stuff. Find people with boats, private land, vacation...

If you could pick your prize

Do a Free Raffle. Get 2-3 different prizes in the $500-$700 price range ( maybe a 9mm pistol, an AR rifle, a shotgun, a big screen TV, etc). Get items that apply to different people but only give away one item. Set 300 tickets on a table upside down. On the bottom of each ticket there is a...

Question for those who like to smoke stuff

If you are price conscious, the Big Chief is a great little smoker. Used one for years and had great results. I now use a traeger pellet stove and love it. I use it on High to cook burgers, steaks, chicken, Medium for ribs, or put it on low to smoke all kinds of wild game.

    Hunting in Germany...

I'd be happy to hunt ANYTHING that would provide a new experience. Might be able to work in Austria, Switzerland, or the Netherlands if that helped?
