What's on the Bench? November 2021

Jode, love that painting your daughter did. Excellent work by all this month and it's only the 4th. I have not done much work in my shop since the middle of 2020. Towns of house issues that dragged on for months with floor joists and all flooring being replaced and some walls and electrical...

    NDR- lead free slugs

Interested to see what your state laws are, if I'm reading it right I believe in NC we can have lead buckshot to hunt deer on duck impoundment game lands while duck season is in but as Vince said you have to be wearing orange while deer hunting so you would have to put that on before shooting a...

    Belle's first Montana season - 2019

Belle and B sure are gorgeous dogs and do a fine job. Thanks for sharing with us and bringing the hunt to us in such a great manner. I hope this year is even better and that it brings back good memories and creates new ones.

Fee to Enter Alabama State Hunting Lottery

NC is the same with a charge to apply for hunts. I apply for swan permits here and it's $10 for the lottery. If you don't get drawn then you get points so that you are pretty much guaranteed to get one the next year.

    Growing Camo

Vince, it's been awhile since I looked for seeds and I found a place that has some and another variety that is native that specifically says it's great for wildlife such as deer, rabbits, bobwhites and songbirds...

    Growing Camo

Yeah Vince, I've been wanting to plant some around the farm and house to make some habitat for them but it's been a struggle to convince my mom to let me do it and to find a supplier of that specific variety of lespedeza

    Growing Camo

Lespedeza virginica Is a native variety to the US. My dad use to have a field of it for cows before I was born and said they would mow it in the late spring and have quail everywhere in it. Apparently it's great cover and a food source for them.

    Battery operated chainsaws

The one I have has an electronic kick back stop. So if it senses a kickback it locks the electronic brake which can be manually locked as well which not all of them have that feature

Hurricane Henri: Hunker Down Up There!

Be safe y'all, I hope y'all handle it better than we handle snow. It made for good offshore fishing today pushing the water in some.

    Battery operated chainsaws

Sounds like for what you need Dani is just the 12" I have the Kobalt 18" bar and love it, the battery it comes with is not the best they have with 2.5 amp hours but can get a 5 amp hour for the same price as the whole saw package.

Solid copper rivets / push pole

I have aluminum rivets and monel steel rivets in standard sizes, if you know what diameter and length I can mail you some, don't have any copper. I would think brass or SS bolt would work better like others have said

    Injured visitor

Looks pretty rough. Hopefully he will appear again so he can be rehabbed. In 2019 my brother in law found a juvenile eagle on the edge of the woods. The wildlife officer said he probably fell from the nest and had been on the ground a long time judging by the lice on him and how easy he was to...

    2 3/4 shells

I don't own a gun that will chamber 3.5" shells. I'm a small frame guy and don't care for multiple shots in 3" shells, not bad for turkeys with a normal one shot. Still my 20 gauge outperforms my 12 in most things excluding geese. So I stick with it unless I feel like using my 16. The 2 3/4"...

    Perfect Songs

One song that is one of my favorites that always speaks to me even though it's not the most played song in my playlist, it is one I frequent to just relax and enjoy. It's called "On God's Front Porch" This gives the story of the song along with the version of the song that is on some Primos...

    Must be Summer Vacation

Does the permethrin work against red bugs (chiggers) as well? I normally don't have too much issue with ticks but this time of year until it cools back down I will get red bug bites all on my legs just from checking cameras or keeping a path clear.

Back from the prairies NDR (Picture intensive)

Brad, thanks for bringing us along through your pictures. Flat landers like me long to see mountains and terrain like that. Did you see many turkeys in Nebraska? Had some plans changed on going to Wyoming, so was looking to maybe do a fall turkey hunt out there way later this year.
