Meat Smoking - Recipes and methods - photos of smoker added at end

Here is a brine recipe I've used for goose breasts. I'm not a huge fan of jerky, but I do grind goose and make smokies/snack sticks with it. If I am going to smoke whole goose breasts, I brine them in this brine for at least 24 hours. Then smoke until the internal temp reaches 160 degrees...

Meat Smoking - Recipes and methods - photos of smoker added at end

I've got a Master Forge propane fired smoker. I've smoked pork shoulder roasts up to 8 lbs., whole turkey breasts, racks o' ribs, chicken thighs and drumsticks. I typically run it at about 200-225 degrees during the first several hours of smoking. I use an instant read digital thermometer to...

    Couple of questions, NDR

I've done a couple similarly to Dave. I cut/cleaned/scraped as much flesh off as I could, then boiled the skull. I actually soaked my last one in a water/bleach solution for a couple days, figuring the bleach would kill any bacteria that might still be around.

Scary moment down at the lake this afternoon…

As being polite is not your strong suite, keeping my mouth shut isn't mine. I'm curious Tod, who ordained you with the right to tell a new member to "go somewhere else"? Every member here was a "newbie" once without an extended track record of posts. We all started out that way. Who are you...

Scary moment down at the lake this afternoon…

I'm saying if he is going to hunt in cold water, there is no reason NOT to train in cold water. I'm also talking typical hunting retrieves, 50 yards or less. But I also think you have to use a modicum of intelligence and common sense when training. I've run HRC Hunt Tests with my dog; he...

    some pictures from the season

Rob, The background of your pictures reminds me of coming across the causeway to the mainland from the Outer Banks. I do have a question as well. THe boat with the scoters laying on it, is it an Armstrong Broadbill, or a wooden version?

Scary moment down at the lake this afternoon…

I'm at a loss to understand your logic. Why WOULDN'T you train for something, in the conditions that would be encountered during hunting? If you don't train for the task and conditions, the first time a dog experiences something in a hunting situation it very well may end up in a refusal at...

Made a lil progress on the Duck Sneak

Chris, I'd like to see a couple more photos from the side if possible. I'm trying to imagine the whole boat and the pictures you posted don't help my feeble imagination enough...lol.

Memories of 'stuff' and wishing I had just a little more 'stuff'

Great writing Tim. I'm sad for you that you didn't get the items you wanted. But as someone else said, you have the memories. I try not to think back at all the dumb stuff I did when I was younger, like trading the little .410 S x S I shot my first pheasant with for a Sears Ted Williams 12...

    Taxidermy Displays-Coffee or end tables

Last time I bought a piece of plexiglass it was pretty spendy. I'm not sure it's any less expensive than regular glass. Check with Lowe's or Home Depot near you. They usually have a glass cutting station and will cut to size for you. If you plan on a glass top, I would consult a glass shop...

If you run a website then avoid

I own several ddomains and built and host multiple websites. I register and host everything through Yahoo. I've never had any issues with anything. I get domain registration notices all the time like you did Eric, and fortunately I caught on pretty early since it came through the regular mail...

    Truck tires?

I looked at the Cooper AT3's but they weren't aggressive enough for my liking. I had a set of Cooper Zeon LTZ's on my truck and got about 50k miles out of them. More aggressive tread and they were pretty darn quiet. They were the most affordable tires for a 20" rim that I could find that were...

How cold is it at your house this morning?

It was -1 degree when I got in the truck to go goose scouting. I knew they wouldn't be flying but wanted to see how many were consolidated onto the little open water we have right now.

Need help with a layout boat...

In profile from the side, the foot box actually tapers up. I worked on one with a guy several years ago, and we modified the foot box by eliminating the taper. It changed the displacement and made the foot end of the boat float slightly higher. The result was a lot of slap in chop and it...

    boat motor quandry.

SOunds like it may be a venting problem and the engine is starving for fuel, ESPECIALLY if you are able to pump the primer bulb and get it running better.
