    Starting outboard in extreme cold

Nick, I have 2 Suzuki outboards. A 250 and a 20. I have not had an issue with starting in the extreme cold yet. I think everyone has made a good recommendation on the Racor. I would never have a boat without one. Put it anywhere you can and put your primer bulb between it and the outboard. I...

Kevin I wear an onyx a33 a/m insight . See the link. I find it very comfortable and it fits over all My hunting gear. I?m an XL and there is room to spare. I have worn it out in rain storms and no accidental deployments, supposedly it has to be submerged to deploy or you can pull it...

    Question for the Trailer Gurus

Jeff, I would think a good quality hot dipped galvanized trailer would be best for the salt. I have an aluminum I-beam trailer that I use in the salt every week. The issue I see with it is all the dissimilar metals and salt. It?s not holding up as I expected after 3 years. My old galvanized...

    Layout boats.

John, I have a Core Sound X1 one man layout. It weighs in at about 105#. It is super stable and dry. I personally feel it is much more comfortable than a pumpkin seed. Plus Terry who builds them is great to deal with.

    Tolman widebody skiff

Thanks for the offer Bill. I will have to stop by and look at that Cackler. It may be the push I need to build a Honker. Plus that Pelicano looks like a good build. Talk soon. Tom

    Tolman widebody skiff

Time and money are definite restraints. Try and price a new 20? boat and outboard. Your friends 28k is not a bad deal! Most manufacturers have a year or more wait now with the pandemic. Plus the pride of building it yourself is priceless.

    Tolman widebody skiff

Tod, Was there something specific that made you stay away? It looks like it would be a good all around boat. I have a large sea duck rig but this may fill the need for striper and trout fishing. A honker has some appeal to me as well.

Question on motor size for 14' seaclass

Hi Pete, I can?t comment on the horsepower needed for your boat. I can say that I have 2 Suzuki?s on my big boat ( main and kicker) they have been great. I have a 20 for the kicker. I do know that the 20hp is a 2 cylinder and the 25hp is a 3 cylinder and weighs about 40 more pounds. Just...

    You seaduck hunters....

I run mixed species for sea ducks with good success. We have had times when broadbill have come to our spread. I would just put our the bills. The Eiders will be more cautious than the scoter. Stay low and still in the skiff.
