Cape May County pond/ ditch box

Thanks Eric, it is deeper because pond and ditch box’s for the Jersey coast were built to row in the deeper tidal salt ponds. A lot of today’s style pond box’s are built to be a dry layout box in the marsh.

Cape May County pond/ ditch box

Hey Steve, you are correct mostly all the box’s were pulled, towed, or rowed to the gunning spot then set in a small ditch or marsh cut out to Gunn out of. The main purpose was to be able to row out and retrieve the birds and decoys down in cape may county they have vast amounts of marsh but the...

Cape May County pond/ ditch box

Here is a pond/ditch box from my collection of South Jersey gunning boats. This is a 1950 Cape May County Ditch/ Pond box. It is 7ft 6” long & 35 inches wide. It is made out of 1/2 inch cedar sides and transom and 1/8 inch cedar bottom planks. What makes it a Cape may county box is the sides of...

Depending on how I rig it if I do flapper boards it will easily gun two guys. I plan on keeping the cockpit rounded. And removing the center board trunk. And yeah I have too many projects but they all get documented and eventually get finished!

    1938 Perrine sneakbox

I know I have to many projects but I couldn’t let this one go. It is a 1938 Perrine Sailing Sneakbox the boat is 15ft long and 6ft wide. Should be an easy project except the rotted center board. But I will be removing that and making this into a full Gunning box. Last picture is a 1940s add for...
