    bankes vs tdb

I can second everything that Brad says about a Bankes. I have Goliath ( hull#3) and have put it through more than it's paces over the years and am still amazed at what it can do. Have you talked to Mike Bankes yet about performance? He's put enough boat/motor combos out over the years to...

For you sausage makers out there

I made some snow goose sausage using edible ( not natural ) casings made by LEM. I used a dry brat mix and added it to the ground goose and ground pork shoulder. It was 75/25 goose to pork. We ate a bunch within a month or so of making it, then about 6 months later had some more and just...

    Can't get them every day!

Been there done that. They gave us a second chance the day I did it and we got a few. Great angles and perspective of sculling. Thanks for sharing. -D

Duck Commander's banning from his own show

The more I read about the Robertsons the more I like them. They are a very positive example of a family that has come from nothing, been through a lot, and are happy and faithful. Phil loves hunting ducks, loves eating ducks, and loves God and the Bible....sounds like a great guy to me...

Simple things that make me smile

King Can needs to come back east for a hunt. Last time I saw him a $100 goose band made my day! Great birds there Fred. We're finally getting real duck hunting weather and the season is back in on tuesday....I hope to match that picture sooN! -D

    Snow, snow and more snow

A good one for us here in the Chesapeake as well. It's deer season so duck and goose is out for another week+. I'm all excited to deer hunt in the snow tomorrow and hopefully enjoy one heck of a late season here. I have that NOAA page book marked on my phone and check it nearly every day...

How Slow Does Your State G&F Move?

The nature of a bureaucracy. The only thing they do quickly is go to lunch. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of good folks that work at out DNR, but between politics, budget "issues", and a web of regulatory and legal messes.....well, don't hold your breath for anything. -D

Duckboat status and Hunting with Slugs

2-3/4" 1oz. rifled slugs. I took a stupid shot many moons ago with a benelli black eagle and a Cyl. choke and dropped my first buck in it's tracks at 167yds offhand. dropped about a ft. and hit him in the spine. Good luck and shoot straight. Stick to 75yds and you'll do fine. -D

    Bunch of pictures.

Great pictures Mike. I spent the morning on the north side of the east lake at the hill on the mud bar. The lake was frozen except for a small hole the birds kept open. We had a good shoot in andy's swath grazing on Monday morning and just arrived in North Dakota b/c everything pushed south...

    October workbench thread

I'm trying to set a record for how many times I can post the same bird in consecutive months! He's finished except for a piece of driftwood and maybe a wash. This was a lot of fun to paint.

Cera kote is the way to go. It can get pricey but for a standard gun it's worth it. -D

    October workbench thread

Finally getting the Tree ducks close to done. Are my colors close? It's hard to tell without the dead reference method I've gotten used too. The green Heron is another one that I won't be in possession of dead reference any time soon. Used a lot of brushes in todays session. -D

    Whitney Scull in the snow

Yes, it was taken from a blind that was on a jetty that poked out into the Chesapeake. Chris, 3 guys and a tender boat is a great way to get out and chase sea ducks. The Whitney tows backwards really well and it makes it a lot more fun and safe to have a boat watching over out and able to...

    Whitney Scull in the snow

Here's one from a while back that will go down in the books as one of my most memorable hunts. We got 2 drake cans on one scull and 3 blackheads on the next. the snow was falling and tehre was a light breeze out of the east. This is the banks of the Chesapeake Bay. The picture was...

    Carolina Skiff

Not a good combo. they're too heavy and not the right geometry. A short tail mud motor works best with a mud motor boat and that's that. I know a guy that had one and ended up getting an aluminum mud boat. -D
