    seen a weird duck today

Yep, I believe you can hunt them too. Here's some info I pulled up about their distribution from a bird fact sheet. The four races of Common Eiders in North America have different breeding ranges. The southern race Somateria mollissima dresseri breeds from Maine to Hamilton Inlet on the...

    seen a weird duck today

That's a common eider. The males get green on the back of their necks during breeding season.

    Pimping ducks??

That's a LOT of Osprey feathers! Jeesh! Do they smell? All the fish hawk feathers I've found have had a small fishy damp odor to them. Looks like you found almost a whole summer's molt- and Mac's got them separated nicely into primaries, secondaries, tail feathers. Sweet!

    Pimping ducks??

Haha... I'll buy a farmed harlie... If you advertise that you'll get about $300 for one... I'm serious... =) I do remember our eagle feather discussion... that's neat they're so common and it's legal for you to have them. Gotta take some pics of them for me- remember? The buyer usually knows...

    Pimping ducks??

Dave Algrehn is from Blue Shadow Game farm, if I remember correctly, and he is selling pen raised birds. He's a good guy, I think I've done business with him in the past. Didn't find the black bear claws, but if you hunt a black bear, you could probably gift the claws to somebody, and somebody...

As Easter approaches I have BAD NEWS

Steve, That's neat- I have hunted four before, but sometimes they get grouchy and start playing chicken with eachother. So usually it's two or three. We always end up with our limit of cottontails and swamp rabbits. (I can't really tell the difference, but I'm not catching them so it's alright)...

As Easter approaches I have BAD NEWS

Haha... no, my 16 year old younger brother (taller than me by 1/8" and counting) and I are the only two on the hunt- we are in it for the candy. I stopped eating candy two weeks ago so the pectin Russell Stover jellybeans will taste extra-good. I have been known to set traps though, so "maybe...

    Collared Doves

I hear them in spring and summer. I thought they'd be dumb in the winter... sure enough I found one in a road when it snowed and scared it by driving up next to it, rolling the window down and taking a picture of it. Flew to a snowbank 5 feet away to continue it's freezing it's butt off... This...

    Hey....is anybody "SUGARING" yet?

Steve, Passed that time here- we finished up a couple of weeks ago with a decent sap run at the end of the sugaring season. It was pretty warm here, and then froze to butt-cold temps (jan-feb) and the run isn't as good as it was hoped to be. I am not sugaring full-time, but I will be taking a...

As Easter approaches I have BAD NEWS

Apparantly there IS more than one easter bunny... Or, there WERE more easter bunnies... good thing they have about 500 babies every so often so I still get my jellybeans and chocolate bunnies next sunday. Oh, I'm 18 and I still look for easter eggs, even though I know they're hidden in...

New photos a day late or 6 days early

Did a little research... I guess Eastern Fox Squirrels (niger) are different from their western and central counterparts. The black mask threw me a loop. I wonder if their hair works for fly tying. Are the tail hairs banded? Have you ever shot one?

New photos a day late or 6 days early

That's a funky looking squirrel I must say! No turkey? Where'd they all go? Missouri? I know they're around, Hitch- you'll get one!

    Carving party

I'd love to come, except that I'm 432.84 miles away- so that's mapquest's 7 hour estimate of driving. Hope you guys have fun though- i'll be with you in spirit-

    E Allen spoonie

Looks GOOD Mark! All this E-Allen stuff makes me want to actually finish painting mine! How is that textured? Did you do a base layer of gesso mixed with something? Maybe sawdust? How do I do that?

Got out of the building for a bit today.

Looks like wolverine claws to me... right color fur too... that lynx is too neat... I've been looking for a quality lynx hide for a while now- the cheapest I found them was 2 years ago at a rendezvous and I passed it up because I thought they might have been illegally trapped. (No tags...

    Duck hunting today

Chuck, I am relatively new to the sport of falconry, but Lee Slikkers may have some neat pictures to share. There are a few other guys on here who have had birds, and probably have some sweet shots on their computer or waiting to be scanned. I have a bunch that I'm trying to sort through, so...
