Decoy rigging for that old school look...

I like to take an old leather belt or leather matting and use as my loop on the birds. Cut a strip about 4 in x 1.5 in wide. Fold and drill two pilot holes with 1/6" drill in the area to screw into the wood or cork. Use 1/4" x 1.5" long brass screws to place directly under the decoy head. I...

    Maurilio pintail whistle...

I do not have that exact name call but I use a "High Roller" by Primos. Of course it is not a traditional wood call since it is plastic but it does have the barrel roller. The only disadvantage I have had is contolling the roll of the sound from very high volume to a lower lower volume. It is...

Crazy Diver Decoy Idea Or Not ?

In high school 20+ years ago I used to collect 2 liter bottles from family and friends. Paint the bottles black with 1 white strip. We were really cheap but my friends and I would use cheap 25 lb fishing line and anything from rocks, sections of bricks I collected working for a brick layer, and...

Weird Tacoma 4WD Problem Nobody Can Figure Out. Can You?

Eric, I know I have come late into this and you have hopefully solved your problem with delamniation but in case there is a could be an underlying root cause that will show itself. If power steering fluid is used instead of DOT 3 brake fluid you may be swelling your rubber seals within the...

What is that "thingy" called on the bottom of a field decoy that the base slides into??

Andrew, I put a 3/4 inch wood dowel into each bird before I burlap with a pinch of gorilla glue. Use a 3/4 wood hole cutter to make a hole 3 to 4 inches deep in the foamer. I use a bastard file to rough the sides then wet slightly with a towel inside the foam and on the dowel before applying...

    NDR. Recommended bucket list: Quetico

Just got back in the states and I truly believe the Quetico provincial park in lower Ontario is one of most pristine, natural places within driving distances in North America. If God willing and your healthy enough to the challenges of portaging and canoeing it is a pure nature fix. The is...

    Goose call

I too recommend the simplicity of notes in Bob Furia's call. It has the ability to make what I consider the true guttural notes only a goose makes plus the high strong notes needed to get there attention. Easy blowing call and the quality of craftsmanship is clearly displayed in the design...

    decoy carve-in pictures

Nothing but a great time carving meeting new carvers, learning great techniques, and eating 5 STAR for breakfast, lunch, dinner with a late evening snack. I could do this every weekend but the better half would most likely put her foot down. Thanks for a wonderful time Kelly, David and Jacob...

Good news for Delaware bay Shore Birds

Sounds great for wildlife...Can you go into more detail on the Horseshoe crab harvest? I never realized they were harvested. What for? My family owned a vacation house in Stone Harbor, NJ and spent many of spring through summer months from Stone Harbor south to Cape May as a kid on the...

Drying time for burlap covering on decoys

Depends on the condition? Temperature and Humidity If you have low humidity, 20 or less with temps in the 70s+. I have about 12 decoys ready to mastic but the humidity here in Houston, Tx has been repeatively in the upper 60s for the past four weeks, temperature on the other hand has been...

    Decoy Storage thoughts

Well if the acquired taste for these "Liver" Trohpies is not present in the decoy maker you can always find on ebay large quantities being sold by various people. My bourbon does not come in a bag or you would see a rig of "1792" bags covering my decoys. Regards, Kristan

    Decoy Storage thoughts

Alot of guys on my lease use the standard mesh bags you would for regular decoy storage. To carry two or three dozen depending on the size of the bags. The way to do this is once you have all the decoys on one carabiner you must pull the decoys as tight as possible together. Grab the carabiner...

    Sonar/GPS

Phil another thing you could do is buy a cheap depth finder for each boat and just download navionics to your tablet or phone for around 50 bucks. A buddy set up his new boat with a USB port to hook his tablet up to use as chart plotter. Regards, Kristan

    Sonar/GPS

Lawerance Mark 4. If you want to have the ability to transfer from boat to boat just buy second transducer and mounts. The only problem is that you get what you pay for when it comes to chartplotter/fishfinder. But the mark 4 is on the low low end of cost. Regards, Kristan

    Filson

Yes...it is the same wool feel from the chest pockets on the tin jackets. It is insulated very well. Not a great hat to wear if you are active before the hunt.

They are wonderful hats at cooler temperature ranges. Any temp above 45 do not wear until you have cooled down because cotton wax does not breathe. Regards, Kristan

    Hull design

I have a Bud Miles BBSB which is a displacement hull. I have never been scared of any water condition whether I hunted my home waters on Kentucky Lake, Barkley Lake, Ohio River, Mississippi River, or Lake Erie around Toledo when I lived up in northern indiana. But I have hunted a lot of...

    Plastic Goose Decoys

I used the Hardcover brand for near 5 years to hunt greaters when I lived in Fort Wayne indiana...They are shiny like any new plastic decoys so before the second season I left them out in backyard for about two months in the middle of summer and it reduced the shine considerably to nearly no...
