I think they're dry Laminated coosa would probably be pretty equivalent in weight to the water saturated balsa. If that's what you have and you have enough to do the floor I would go with it

Looks great! For rail work I like the traditional 3 prong push pole head. Different than the herters head I use for mud work on the duck rig. The 3 prong head grips vegetation better, and that in turn acts as the bearing surface for pushing. Here is a pic of a 16' 100 year old tapered pole...

I would definitely add one vote for allowing your new fiberglass to lap over the existing seams that you have. Trying to tie it in to that beveled edge would be difficult at best. By overlaying your cut line you will increase the strength significantly

This is sort of what I was thinking. Attack that flooring from the top side rather than the bottom. But Noah is well into it now.
