    Starting the AA Broadbill project

9.9s & 15s are a dime a dozen down here in peninsula FL. Seems like a lot of older guys move down to retire from up north and then don't ever use them. Long drive for a motor but you could probably buy 3 for what guys in north Alabama (or even Mobile) want for them.

Cold I think I experienced grownup in northeast PA was -10. But that was pretty uncommon. The lake we lived along would be making ice and booming from expansion cracks all night.

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

Unfortunately, barring a move back to Alabama, I doubt I will ever get to do a build. I am toying with the idea of actually buying a license and stamps next season and at least getting the smokercraft & boatblind out to shoot a few bluebills down here on old Tampa Bay. Now that my youngest is...

    IN Reach or PLB

In regards to Jay's comment about offshore fishing, just had an incident down here, right around Christmas, where two guys were overdue from an offshore fishing trip. Their boat was found 20+ miles out, in gear, at idle speed, empty. It appears neither had a PFD on or a PLB. They have never...

    Blackbellied Whistling Duck Season

I assume the thinking is that some hens could still be sitting on or just hatched second broods?? I know from when I worked in Mobile, we would see BBWDs standing on nesting boxes from very early spring through summer.

    Blackbellied Whistling Duck Season

Wonder why they didn't just make them part of the bag during the early teal season??? I saw the same thing in coastal Alabama before I left, BBWDs all over the place during summer and early fall, gone by time regular duck season came in. Similar to purple gallinules, but they normally left...

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

When I thought I was going to start a build, I was settled on the Devlin Bluebill. Its a little bigger. You can also stretch the hulls, like I believe Eric did.

    $4 a shell? Holy cow!

This is an excellent study. Thanks for sharing. I shot steel over 28 of the 30 years I duck hunted. Once I got glasses and a gun that fits, and found a load I had confidence, and understood the limitations of that 3” 1 1/4 oz #3 steel load, I had a high level of success and low numbers of...

    New Duck Boat Purchase!

    $4 a shell? Holy cow!

Unless you drink Pepto by the bottle every day, or eat pellets as snacks (like noted above) you dont have much to worry about. Given the extremely low number of hunters using bismuth shot, especially compared to the amount of lead back in the day, nor do the ducks. Bismuth (Pepto-Bismol)...

    $4 a shell? Holy cow!

Bismuth has relatively low toxicity, and low tendancy to bio-accumulate Its the active ingredient in Pepto Bismol! So yep, much much safer than lead.
