    Foam teal project

Awesome project! I am in on a camp in S. Louisiana. September teal season is my favorite time of the year, next to big duck season of course! How long does it take to print one head? What are the dimensions of your teal bodies?

    Starting to lay

I was fishing ahead of this cold front Thursday and checked 3 new boxes I installed 2 weeks ago. Hens started to lay in two boxes and one hen is sitting hard. These early nesters always worry me due to lack of ground cover for ducklings. My partner enjoys checking boxes too. He is both...

    Duck Hunter Surveys

Are some States beta testing charging or receiving a small fee for the HIP survey in order to attempt to gather more accurate data and point of sale compliance? If so, is it too soon to tell if this has helped obtain more data of any sort?

    Duck Hunter Surveys

I try to emphasize this to many conspiracy theorists who say they "don't want the government to know what they kill". I've been chosen for waterfowl, dove and Woodcock surveys. I've always considered it an honor to be able to contribute.

    Starting to lay

I'm fortunate enough to be able to drive by 4 of my duck boxes along the shore of our local lake. I saw a couple of pairs on boxes this morning and shot these two from the window of my car. I will never get tired of seeing our State duck and giving them a hand with nesting boxes. This duck...

    NC duck hunters airplane crash

I attended the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston, SC yesterday. One vendor had made this tribute sign made in remembrance for those lost. Life is short, hunt more and hug your family a bit tighter every chance you get

Wood Duck nesting box - material?

Here in SC there was a push to get away from slow growing, albeit long lasting cypress and use pine instead. The use of pine lumber only lasted 3 years. The sun and humidity take a toll on wood down here. The pine boxes that folks painted the exterior are still holding together and the...

    NC duck hunters airplane crash

We have a lot of folks from SC who hunt OBX / Mattamuskeet. It has hit close to home for many. I believe only one body has been recovered. This is a tribute picture of the 4 young fellas who were on the plane. Absolutely gut wrenching.

    Dogs.

Sorry to see this Jode. I lost my first water dog back in 2018. Jake was a far better retriever than I was a trainer and absolutely loved pointing woodcock. Some of Jake's last few retrieves were Bull Cans and Wigeon. I just finished duck season with this youngster who will be 4 this...

    Life vest recommendations

Inflatables are comfortable but is your life worth the possibility of the auto inflate feature failing? We just had a fella here in SC say his dad fell out of the boat this past weekend and his lifejacket failed to auto inflate. From what I gather, some won't auto inflate until you sink...

    The Long hunt (stranded overnight)

Awesome adventure!!! Great reminder to plan for the worst and hope for the best! The more time we spend in the woods and on the water the odds increase that we'll be stranded at some point. Glad you're safe and we're all able to read about a happy outcome!

    When one is enough....

Our Pintails at the end of the Mississippi river are rust stained from rooting in the mud for duck potato. Taxidermists use rust stain remover to whiten it back up but many folks elect to leave it as a trait given the location of harvest. Congrats on harvesting some beautiful bulls!

    Season Dates stink

I was in S. Louisiana last week. The lack of ducks was abysmal. I'm used to shooting ducks in warmer weather but they're not coming South like they used to. No need with warm weather, plenty of food and open water up North. Our season is open until Jan 30th which is a week or more later...

Glad I didn't go out Wednesday

Sad but what an incredible job! The rescue videos I've seen after hurricanes and during Gulf storms are remarkable. How did he get the car door open and to stay open? Looked like the current was ripping.

Sometimes you just have to shake your head in disgust...

I could see anti hunters blocking a ramp. I keep a 4 way lug wrench in my truck....it'd come in handy for your situation. ;)

    Question

I do most all of my hunting at the end of the Miss. flyway. Photoperiod ducks are the norm during early season. Short sleeves, sun screen and bug spray are the norm many days with frequent limits of Greys, Pintail, Teal and Wigeon. As season progresses I love to hunt the backside of big...

    Mud motor

Man I hate to hear that. Betsy seems like a real sweet lady. They build one heck of a motor too. I have buddies in S. Louisiana that have new boats built since last April still waiting on outboards to power them. I don't know how a boat builder can stomach the carrying cost for materials...
