    Spud pole

I hunt S. Louisiana. It's easy to make a Cajun anchor. I use a ground rod, flatten one end and add a SS ring like on the commercially made below. Similar to these: https://www.hhlure.com/products/cajun-marsh-anchors?variant=616458377

Where to put the dog in sneak box small boat

Consider dragging a pirogue and small paddle, they are designed for bottomless marsh and will slide across mud and grass. I added spud holes to my pirogue so I can steady the boat when shooting in deeper water or soft mud.

Where to put the dog in sneak box small boat

I have a Carstens Puddler and hunt my pup behind me. I also have a Four Rivers Refuge Runner and hunt him off the rear deck or behind my layout seat. Pirogue spudded, dog hunts behind me. I had a marsh rat, too tight for both myself and the dog laying out in the marsh.

    Trailer failure… clean snap

I'm in SC. Aluminum I-beam trailers are all over down here due to saltwater use. Everything on an aluminum trailer should be bolted. I would never buy a welded aluminum trailer, they don't handle stress of bouncing down the highway. I'm guessing that trailer in the picture broke at the weld?

    Trailer failure… clean snap

Nothing a ratchet strap and scrap 2 x 4 couldn't fix. LOL You must have had the transom straps on too or I'd think the outcome might have been different.

Very Interesting Documentary on Louisiana Coastal Habitat Loss

I'm in SC but make the trip 4-5 times per year. I can only imagine. The tent camping days were unbelievable 25 years ago, a vast majority of what I saw then is under water today.

Very Interesting Documentary on Louisiana Coastal Habitat Loss

Unfortunately Eric, we are out of sight therefore out of mind. John McPhee was right too, the mighty Mississippi can't be tamed. A French fella was documenting French General Lafayette's travels into North America in 1825. He made this mini film on La Balize, a town at the end of...

Very Interesting Documentary on Louisiana Coastal Habitat Loss

Yes. Our camp is East of the Head of Passes. I have a friend from Metairie who also hunts and fishes Biloxi Marsh when he can't make it down to camp. We only pirogue hunt so it must be heaven not to have surface drive mud motors on Biloxi. One day I'll get up there.

Very Interesting Documentary on Louisiana Coastal Habitat Loss

I discovered S. Louisiana 2 weeks after losing my waterfowling mentor, my dad, January 1st, 2020 (remember Y2K, I was on a plane flying from SC to Detroit, MI the eve of 12/31,1999 but I digress). I was invited to a camping duck hunt 70 miles S of New Orleans near a place called Venice, LA...

60 yrs of data shows shift in winter range

The shift northward is what has folks in the South don't understand. The mantra in S Louisiana is "corn ponds are holding all the ducks North". Lots of conspiracy theorist stating their beliefs. Hunters are blind to the fact that the Great Lakes don't freeze anymore and that little to no...

60 yrs of data shows shift in winter range

I've been watching a change over the last 25 years hunting S La. This isn't surprising but definitely shows what's happening on the lower MS flyway. https://www.usgs.gov/news/national-news-release/60-years-data-show-shifts-winter-ranges-three-duck-species-midwest By Communications and...

Brad Bortner is on the Duck Season Somewhere podcast and What I'm Listening To Today

SC boys were probably the most notorious for misidentification and shooting Wood Ducks as biologists surveyed from "spy blinds', so much so that SC's early teal season won't allow shooting UNTIL LEGAL SUNRISE. In Louisiana the hunt is about over most mornings at legal sunrise.

Custom Sneak Box - looking for input

I like it! That bow design, looks like it could handle a chop yet the hull would draft shallow. Add a manual on the fly jack plate and I bet she'd really run in skinny water.
