Fair price for used cork decoys?

In New England, it isn't hard to find older LLBean cork birds going for $25-30 each in good shape. Herter's last cork birds had tenite (plastic) heads, worth whatever you are willing to pay, not more than Bean birds, as a rule. There were a couple other companies that came and went, w/wood...

harvest time how is your garden?

No higher maintenance vegetables as I travel a bit in summer, but old variety of "Indian" corn is doing well - it's a 90 day variety, unlike the bread and butter corn already in markets...now, just trying to keep 'coons and squirrels from tipping the stalks. It grinds well for flour = cornbread...

    Wi Open water/concealment regs....

I'd known of old regulations written like this aimed at sink boxes, bodybooting, etc...not sure if this exists on Great Bay?

Anybody interested in a scull boat!!

Getting off track of the sculling boat question, but Lou and Hank, what year were those "LobstaFests" - 10-15 years ago? Have photos "filed" in a box somewhere, will post if they surface after the corn's in. Saw Bill and Judy since springtime, and Alvin's had a bit of development around his...

Dow's Joppa boat was glassed by the builder to handle Great Bay ice...some conditions here are rough on wood alone.

    decoy ID help

the swinging lead weight was common to decoys on Lakes Erie and Ontario, at least in the Buffalo to Toronto region...my first rig (purchased used many moons ago) all had that kind of ballast, no keel.

    Elmer Cromwell decoys???

Stop by Guyette & Schmidt Decoy Auction at Portsmouth Sheraton (NH) 29&30July...a chance to see birds in hand, and plenty of folks who'd be willing to help you. As others have said "buyer beware" if deal seems too good.

    vintage super magnum inflatable plasti-duks

what you have are Neuman & Bennetts (sp?) decoys from the left coast, I think Oregon was their base, sold nationally...date back to the 60/s/70's; some air, some foam, filled. Not high value as collector items, but good working birds.

    Chesser's book

good to hear you are defrosted up north. We've had the earliest ice out here on the lake that I can remember. Haven't seen the new Chesser book, though I heard it's reprinting lowered the value of originals...a surprise to me also.

NH sculler, Randy Dow, passes on...

Randy Dow, who sculled Great Bay (NH) 'til his 90th year, passed away. He preferred to hunt alone, though helped those willing to put the time in to learn. He was "old school", expressed his opinion freely, loyal to friends, and tolerant of most others. Flew everything the US made in WWII out of...

Anyone have info on Charles F. Murphy?

I visited his shop when it was located at Strawberry Banke - a collection of historic buildings & exhibits in Portsmouth, NH. Nice man, always took time to answer questions. The three boxed pattern collections show up on Ebay and used book stores. His wife was selling a complete collection of...

    The Old Duck Hunters

See if you can find Ducks Unlimited May/June 1998 Magazine - Chuck Petrie wrote an article about revisiting MacQuarrie's stomping ground called "MacQuarrie Country - a lesson in time travel and being careful what you wish for". I may have a few copies of the article if you can't find it.

Still have not seen any birds flying south in NH

Hey Geoff, the ducks can see you are carrying a little 20 ga double, not the usual Benelli! Glad to hear the shorthairs are chasing birds for you...

Still have not seen any birds flying south in NH

Have a spot where I can launch regardless of tide, so got into the Bay early Sunday morning. Saw birds flying high, going somewhere, but not a lot looking for company - all seemed to have a place to go. That'll change once ice locks up the inland water... Tom
