OARLOCK STANCHIONS for a South Bay Duckboat

Really, really interesting. I had never seen pipe oarlocks before. Maybe they weren't popular here in Jersey.

    FWC Mottled Duck vs. Mallard

I have always questioned the idea that hybrid black/mallard ducks were a real issue. I am not surprised to learn the genetic info you mention. There was never any clear guidance as I recall here in NJ. And you collectors of old black duck decoys know there was often a thin white line painted...

    No ducks, just deer

That is a really nice deer Ed, and a very good shot with a slug gun. I haven't hunted deer in about 20 years now, but I hunted in the Catskills with a rifle and in Jersey with buckshot and the woods are as you describe. It is rare to even get a shot at the range you described where I hunted also.

    A300 Cabela's Black Friday Sale - Purchase......

I have an older A391 which is a target model I use for trap, but I believe it is the same action today. If so, it is nice shotgun and is reliable. I bought it about a year ago and really like it. It was in mint shape and I couldn't say no. It is easy to disassemble and clean and being a gas gun...

    Atlantic Brant hunt

Eel grass is why. Eel grass beds along the East Coast started to die as the intra-coastal waterway was built and the salinity of the water changed in the bays affected. That is why I said if you eat them the first week they are here they are often OK. Once they are on the lettuce, I skin and...

    Atlantic Brant hunt

Anyone that comes to NJ to gun should try and hunt brant once for the experience. Brant are so different in many ways from other waterfowl, at least out this way. You can watch brant fly for hours and be entertained with the sights and sounds of them on a coastal bay, which is quite a bit...

Marsh Stake for Staking out Boat during Tide Change

I just use an 8 foot push pole and I give about 8 to 10 foot of slack on the rope bridle. As the tide recedes the boat usually follows the tide line as long as there is ample water underneath. This is what I do also, keep it simple. As far as I'm concerned the less stuff in the boat the better...

Does anyone make a one man one dog field blind?

I think I've seen these in the past somewhere is some catalog. But you are a pretty handy guy, and if you built yourself a lightweight aluminum frame that folded up, Diane could make you the outside and you would have something nice that will last until you aren't using it. I would think about a...

This Season's Project.. 1928 Benjamin Hallock Gunning Scooter

This is another really great looking boat. I wish I was a woodworker like you guys, but I so enjoy seeing what everyone is doing and learning about the hiostory and lineage of these boats, where they are from, who built them, who owned them. I envision the document residing somewhere in a...

    New Sneakbox Project

These are really nice. There was one in Dividing creek years ago a guy I knew had, but he wasn't a sneakbox guy, used it very little, and I think it went the way of the dinosaur. Glad you have this one Bob!

    Custom Decoy Bags

I second this motion! I have two canvas bags that are approaching 20 years old, they are as good as new. Don't bother with anything else.

    black walnuts

I have a fun method of taking the husks off. I step on them and roll them under my feet (wearing a pair of ankle length LL Bean boots) then use rubber gloves to pick up the nuts. Works pretty good and keeps my hands from being dyed for weeks. I like to get at them within a day or two of them...

    black walnuts

One of the things I like to do in the fall is gather some black walnuts, clean and dry them, and crack them over the winter to eat. I prefer black walnuts to english walnuts for flavor. They are everywhere in the southern half of NJ, so finding plenty of nice ones is not problem except in a low...

Would this be a Skull Boat?

Hey Steve-why don't you explain what the coaming is and means and why it is there, Nancy may not be familiar with that term.
