Options for my boat sides- will be making big water blind

10” above water line is easy. My blind will involve snaps all the way around the boat. Just wonder about the shine. But maybe that won’t matter. Yes, divers are my game.

    Free: Herters (?) decoy weights

I had a dozen or so of those decoys that my grandfather had. They unfortunately split, and got moldy.

What is your wind tolerance for boat based hunts???

It’s a lot higher than it should be.

    New Duck Boat Purchase!

That’s very nice. After a 7 day 100km canoe packing trip in Ontario with my son’s scout troop, I vowed that I would not get in a canoe again for the rest of my life. But if I did it would be in one like that.

Options for my boat sides- will be making big water blind

Many have seen and contributed to my thread about putting a basic blind on my fishing boat. The big concern is the sides of the boat. It is a nice grey color, but shiny. It is a newer boat and I’m picky about its appearance. It is mostly used for trolling walleye on Lake Erie. I don’t want...

This makes a lot of sense Don. Not the way I had been doing it. Where are you getting 10 cent glass eyes?

You are absolutely correct. It should not be difficult. But for some reason it takes me a long time. I just spent thirty minutes fighting with a pair of eyes and wood filler. The crochet eyes with those stems might really help with setting them evenly since I drill a hole all the way through...

I definitely obsess over things that only matter to me. I’m working on a goldeneye foam/butlap/pine head that has far more issues anatomically than how the eyes are set in.

I carve gunners. They are modest at best. I’m trying to produce more, to make my rig more “mine”. Glass eyes really slow me down. They are great, don’t get me wrong, but my decoys will never see a table in a competition. What are some alternatives?

Well if you want a good laugh- here is my first 30 minutes on a long tail gunner. Planning to use the Sanford painting method and won’t have the truly long tail. It’s inspired by Sanfords Homer decoys and Blue Ribbon carvers pattern. Thankfully long tails aren’t that smart. Wanted to spend...
