This continues to be a great option for me Don. In my experiments so far I am having better luck with consistent pupils using the end of a small paint brush dipped in black paint that I did with the paint pen. Just fyi for anyone else.

Again I went to the Steve Sanford site for paint advice. I’m working on three more of them now.

I was happy to finish this one tonight. I dread doing hens but Steve Sanford has such great info. I sent the picture to some friends and they couldn’t ID it though. Lol.

I had a sudden dreadful thought today. I think that I used to put spar varnish over the tile mastic I used for burlapping decoys before priming. That was 20 years ago. I’ve done 8 or so decoys this winter without varnishing. Just priming. Does anyone just burlap and mastic without sealing...

Part of my problem is that it is hard for me to get excited about painting decoys I didn’t carve. The bodies are some Herters foam decoys I inherited that I burlapped. The heads I carved. But my heart is in diver decoys and they are all gunning decoys.
