Collect what you like, everyone has their own nuiances when it comes to collecting. For me there are two tiers, 1) has to be used in my rig on a regular basis(modern or antique), 2) has be old,(preference of pre-1920) shows its wear from years of hunting, therfore can be place on a shelf.

Depends on the size of the tree. If he won't cut the heartwood out, no matter what the dimesions some peices will be heartwood. I have never priced out juniper but if price is normally comparable to Northern white cedar, I would have him cut it out and pay for the waste.

I do shoot steel and modern loads in most of my old SxS's if choked correctly. But this particular gun is not of the build quality of Smiths, Foxes or Parkers. Which is why I recomended low pressure loads from someone like RST, not just "no steel".

It will hunt, I do have to compliment you on the back color, it looks nice and dark. Its my pet peeve to see the back a lighter grey on redheads, its like some carvers have never handled a real bird. keep tweeking and it will only get better.
