A TALE of TWO SNEAKBOXES - Both on a single trailer

Rollers on a lightly built boat will result in dents. Worst case the roller falls between ribs and the thin planking takes a set. Even worse if the roller lands on a frame and it cracks or gets mis-shapen over time. Bunks that spring and support as much hull as possible are ideal. You are...

Nails or screws in Barnegat Bay Sneakboxes

In the few vintage hulls that I have worked thus far, they were all nailed planking. I have been a real fan of bugle head SS square drive screws for repairs. In many cases I have used them as clamps during glue up. I can pop them back out and have used them over and over. I agree, I would be...

    Decoy swing weights

John, there are a couple features to swing weights... first they fold so that the decoys can stack, or sit flat when the tide runs out. Secondly, they allow the use of less overall weight since the weight is lower and moves the center of gravity. Used them on a few E Allen decoys, but decided...

    Decoy swing weights

Some years ago, I reached out to MAD decoys.... they sold E Allen decoys and FME paints, from PA. I liked the swing keels as it made the decoys fit in the bags better. I have since gone to flush keels and keel weights, and accept a little more weight, for less effort, and no noise! At the...

    Trailer Tire Pressure

I usually run my trailer tires at 25psi! Similar to you my loads are far lower the rating of the trailer. I use the tires to compensate for the springs some. On the big boat, I do run higher, but not 90. Like you 50 psi is the max. I generally don't run long distance, and when I do , I...

    Sam Hunt Sneakbox restoration candidate

Mine was similar condition when I started, though mine had not been glassed. Mine came with sail, but no rig or spars. Made them all. Look back in 2009/2010 for those build threads.

Resources Receive Huge Boost to Decoy Making Section

Eric, this is fantastic and will drive a lot of traffic to the site. Going forward, I will direct to this resource rather than providing the schemes.

    Fixing old Herters Decoys

My process: use a stepped drill and open base an inch or so. Fill with expanding foam. After foam cures, excavate about 3/4" back fill this with thickened epoxy. Heads will not shatter, and can be mounted with any hardware.

    Canada Goose Chinstraps

This "unbreakable" head is made with Flex-Foam from Smooth-on. I bought trial kits of 2 densities, and only cast one thus far. These are flexible, so you can fold it over, like fell on it, and not break it, but can't yet imagine how to get paint to stick. I can tint the foam when mixing so I...

    Pond boxes

Back when I was considering a conversion, I thought the MC Scow/Melges hull was what I would use. It has a broad bow, and affords more deck space for decoys. More of a performance sailing hull, so perhaps closer to a Laser with respect as a "planning" hull, and therefore might draw less which...
