    Long line weight ideas

For some reason barbell weights don’t hold. They roll. But thinking about it maybe if I could weld an eye on the end it would be more like a mushroom anchor. I’m thinking about pouring hot lead into a soup can with an eyebolt suspended into it.

    Long line weight ideas

I did a little searching and didn’t come up with much. I need some more long line weights. My supply of sash weights has dwindled and apparently they are now “vintage” items on marketplace. What other simple diy ideas are out there short of spending $20 a piece on 5 pound mushroom anchors...

12 slot decoy bag for magnums and long lines

All good stuff. I’ll have to give her a call.

12 slot decoy bag for magnums and long lines

A picture with the barrel method which honestly works great if you don’t mind your decoys trading paint, which I do mind. Probably ideal for plastic decoys. The second is them in a commercially made bag with 7”slots. Slots are just a tad bit too tight for these old decoys, and the bag sags in...

The lines go into the bag along with the clips.

    Too low

I’ll save everyone the 20 minute version but I’m getting back into it. I’m trying to use up my partial builds to bolster my rig before starting fresh. Waste not want not. I have this burlap foam body and pine goldeneye head I carved years ago. The head sits pretty low in the body. This will be...

    Carving vise?

I see carvers on videos using a fully articulated vise while standing and carving. Anyone have one they like and know where to get them?

12 slot decoy bag for magnums and long lines

I want to try to use a 12 slot bad for my decoys while keeping them on the long line. I have bags now. The slot walls do not attach at the bottom and lines and the weights work trough the bottom into neighboring slot causing issues. The other bags that I have that are attached are not big...

Hunting from fishing boat without a blind

The south shore of Erie is basically 100% inhabited and to my knowledge it’s based on two things- state law for all hunting a certain distance from buildings, and city laws.

Hunting from fishing boat without a blind

Thanks Tony. I agree with all of that. When I hunted inland lakes as a youth I stashed the boat and sat still next to a log or rock. For Lake Erie you need to be off shore. Unfortunately the grey wrap on my boat is shiny. I may remove it at some point and paint the boat but I really don’t...

Hunting from fishing boat without a blind

Proof on concept makes sense. I tend to over build things and not use them.

Wow. No blind? What was he shooting at?

Hunting from fishing boat without a blind

I happen to have an old cover from a 24’ pontoon boat stashed away for this purpose. I could paint it and tie chunks of netting into it. It’s plenty of fabric. I’ll even put some snaps around the boat. There are already some well placed ones near the windshield for the canvas cabin. Lots of...

Hunting from fishing boat without a blind

Thanks all. It’s basically all as I was suspecting. The rope from the bow eye is a good idea. I will note that I hope to hunt it off shore like I see people doing with the larger duck boats that have solid canvas panel blinds and no netting or grass, not necessarily up against shore. I was...
