    April Workbench

I’m going to try out a 20 guage auto loader. Unfortunately tss is all sold out around me and tariffs and seasonal needs will make it tough. I’ll have to use good old fashioned lead 5s. Hopefully I’ll luck into a good combo.

    April Workbench

It’s good advice as always. I’ve done a lot to try to make it work. In the end it just comes down to recoil tolerance. I had a great turkey gun until the stock split and action failed from the recoil. It was a Winchester sx3. My problem is mostly “ off the bench”. Never feel it when there is...

    20 guage for ducks?

What is he using for ammo? Do you feel it’s effective at 40 yards.

    20 guage for ducks?

I was hoping to get a 20 auto loader before turkey season but couldn’t find a decent brand version locally that had the receiver tapped for an optic. I’ll keep my eyes open on the used market now.

    April Workbench

Been trying to add some weight to my turkey shotgun to reduce the punishment it gives out on the back end. I cast a plug out of lead and an insert for the stock today. I had big plans to get a 20 guage and set it up this year but I ran out of time.

    April Workbench

I’m having trouble getting to the work bench. I’m in a weird place with weather, work, and ambition. I have two more hen redheads to take over the finish line then keels for everything I made this winter. I also need to completely redo my decoy storage I’m out of room after this winters efforts.

    Round bottom decoys?

Good stuff all. I dont hunt marshes as they are extremely few and far between in my area. But that widgeon decoy made me do a double take. It looked real.

    Fixing old Herters Decoys

If you are not attached to using the original ones you have there are a lot of extras laying around in people’s shops. They can be found relatively inexpensively.

    20 guage for ducks?

I put my hands on the CZ sxs that I was thinking about today. Looks like a winner. Didn’t buy it because I tend to impulse buy. But seriously considering it.

    Grandpa’s decoys

Wrapped them up today. It’s not how I would paint them myself if I had made them but they are tru-ish to the original paint scheme as near as I can tell.

    Joining foam

Thank you Don. I’ll do that. I noticed the epoxy I tried today threw sparks when my bandsaw blade made contact.

    20 guage for ducks?

I recently started fantasizing about getting a side by side 20 guage. My dad’s friend had one that I use to use to pheasant hunt on his pheasant farm. I loved it. I was a kid then. I don’t hunt upland anymore so if I got it it would be just for targets and maybe layout hunting where birds...

    Grandpa’s decoys

Same issue with the drakes. I realize now that I should have sanded the joining surfaces flat. The years of being broken off had caused the grain to raise with all of the changing temps and humidities.

    Joining foam

I have finally gone through all of my foam blocks that I produced 15 years ago. I use 2” think insulating foam, stacked and epoxied together. The epoxy I used to use came from a friend and that is no longer available. What are you using to join foam?

    Round bottom decoys?

The lathe makes sense. Just wondered why and if they were an advantage. I don’t know that I’ll ever get into wood decoys myself.

    Round bottom decoys?

I noticed at the recent decoy show that some wood decoys are round bottomed. Why is that? What keeps them upright in the water? Do they float better than flat bottoms?
